Does anyone else on here have difficulty when washing their green mx-5's??? Whenever I wash mine I HAVE to give it a coating of wax otherwise the paintwork looks dull and faded. When I first picked up the car I washed/clayed/polished and waxed it and it looked OK for a few weeks but the wax coating did not seem to last that long.

Any tips for 'jazzing' up the paintwork before I bite the bullet and send it to a proper detailer????

I know what you mean. The thing is it gets pretty dirty, pretty quickly over winter, waxed or not.

I'm going to treat mine to a damn good machine polish in spring though smile

Yup, same here. Our humble 16 year old mk1 is finished in non-metallic BRG and it develops a slightly oxidised haze to the paintwork very quickly, especially on the bonnet. I just think of it as "patina" smile

Glad it's not just mine!! Much harder to clean then my old black one was?? Did notice a massive difference when I washed/clayed, then did the meguiars three step system, using the paint cleaner made a huge difference!!!!! Just need to find a longer lasting wax

Have you tried using a sealant before waxing?

I always get best results putting it on before wax. I think it's supposed to seal the paint surface before applying a layer of wax on top.

Nice one will have to try that, see if the wax lasts a little longer

I have the exact same problem, mine is right now looking about the worst it ever has, like it has a thick layer of dust over the paint. I've never really cleaned it 'properly', might try claying/waxing it sometime soon. I'd be interested to see some before/after pics of any of the cars above if anyone has any.

I really wish I had takn a pic of the car before and while I was properly cleaning it as the difference is nothing short of amazing, definitely contributed to the low price I paid for it:0
