Wheel spins...
Discussion
Hi peeps..Just had my wheels aligned although they didnt do the rear(They set it to capri..parrallel)..They said there is nothing to adjust on rear,Not sure if thats right?..Anyway only cost £30 and already i can feel the difference..even had a bit of a wheel spin..the car does feel better and better every time i drive it,Power wise..I will probably take it down to dan taylor in the new year as he said the last wedge he did the wheel alignment to took 2.5 hours and cost £200 so im a bit sceptical about what ive just had done..your thoughts please.. Also some dirty scumbag has put a nasty scratch downwards on me drivers door..Lucky its tired old paint or id be srewing even more than i was..Mothers..Apart from the odd jealous snear its smiles all round..cant wait for summer..Does anyone have the settings for the wheel alignments..Many thanks..Zig
To set the rear camber correctly you need to add/remove shims on the drive shafts, so this can take a while, but a lot of the setting can't be changed unless it been upgraded with rose joints, and depending on the design can take a few hours to remove and adjust, maybe longer depending if any nuts or bolts are seized.
[quote=mrzigazaga]Thanks chaps..That does sound a bit more involved,Maybe i will book it into Dan taylor after all.. Heres the print out..Is it out by much..What are rose joints(sorry if its a dumb question)Thanks..mark.

Rose Joints are also know as rod ends
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_end_bearing
I not sure how the degree's convert to mm, but it does look like the rear has too much toe, as it should be zero or at most the same as the front.
Camber seems ok for a road car, rear could do with being the same both sides, but not too much to worry about

The rear alignment is done with shims between the driveshaft and the brake disc / diff so not so easy to do
Surely this is only to set the camber? The toe in / out alignment would have to be set by shims at the front of the trailing arm. Maybe I’m wrong.I think these are the only two adjustments available at the rear.

Are there rose joints on a 280 ?
No, But anything can be converted to rose Joints, was saying if you wanted it to be adjustable then you would have to have it converted, and there a few different ways some take longer to adjust than othersMy 280 FHC now is fully rose jointed, but it is a racer.

Using my simple CAD program in the simple manner which is all that I am capable of, for a 15" wheel, for the rear toe out of 1deg 10 min I get the front of the wheel (measured at the rim) being just over 3mm out from the theoretical parallel, and the rear of the wheel being the same amount in from the parallel line. That sounds a lot to me, though it would be good if someone would check my numbers, and also we would eed to knwo the factory figures.
I've never tried to adjust the tracking on one of these, I have done it on Sierra based kits when it involves putting shims where the hubs bolt to the uprights.
Hi peeps..found some info on the settings..been scouring site after site and only found this..Go to technical information and then TVR suspension settings..

Hi Guys
Here are the generic settings for all Wedges:
The tracking should be set at 3.2mm toe-in +/- 1.5mm
Caster: 3.5 - 4.0 deg. pos.
Camber (F) 1.0 deg. neg.
Camber (R) 1.0 - 1.5 deg. neg.
Toe (in) (F) 0.50 deg.
Toe (in) (R) 2MM - don't know why MM not deg!
2mm on 15inch rims = 0.30 degrees = 18 minutes
2mm on 17inch rims = 0.27 degrees = 16 minutes
Either way it's just a smidge toe in.
15 inch rims 3.2mm toe gives 0.24 degrees wheel to vehicle center-line or 0.48 degrees wheel to wheel.
14 inch rims 3.2mm toe gives 0.26 degrees wheel to vehicle center-line or 0.52 degrees wheel to wheel.
For the front
toe is 3.2 +/- 1.5mm
camber is 0 +/- 1.2 degres (not adjustable anyway is it?)
caster is 31.2 +/- 0.5 degrees
KPI 6 degrees (Not sure what this is?
For the rear
toe is 4.5mm
camber is 0.5 +/- 0.5 degrees (this seems small as the wheels have a visible camber)
hope that helps
Chris

Cheers jack..Will save for future reference..Not sure if mine equates to any of that on the print out..will take it to someone who knows what they are doing.. Went for a drive yesterday and pulled away a bit lively and the back skipped out from left to right,Mind you it was a little damp but it was unexpected and i nearly lost it..will be more aware in future..great fun..cheers zig.
