OK guys, I found some lamps at stupid money, but better than that, a you tube video discussing these same units:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...

You may be able to find them a little cheaper with another seller but check their feedback first of course.

Here's the excellent vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFF2XoZJIBo

Best make sure they can have the beam in the right direction as they are cimmong from the USA, and they drive on the right, also make sure they are CE marked.

I see the challenge here in sorting out the pod setup to install them as well as getting the pod to pop up to the required height instead of the max as per the current setup - especially for the 2.8 & 3.5s

They can be set for LHD or RHD AFFAIK.

I have a brand new MOT station next door to me and he's a stickler for rules & reg's.

If they are not CE's but meet spec 100% I'd still go with them as no one would ever need to check.

Re pods.

I like the idea of limiting the raised height of the pod if these lamps could be fitted in the available space and point the light in the right direction.

BTW, in case you don't know already the latest top xenon bulbs out there are these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Philips-Ultinon-4300k-pure-w...

Note they are not exactly cheap!

I work with a totally possessed lighting nut job at work who I think could lecture Philips on this subject.

I think I'll find a spare pair of pods to experiment with fitment before I go modifying my car but I think quads with halogen for flash and bi-xenon for dip & main is the logical way to go.

Leigh,

What are you planning re carbon lamp covers or pods? You mentioned them in the previous lighting thread.

Think xenons are not directional like normal lights, they produce a flat beam.

That vendow only has 11 feedback. The shipping is horrendous too! I would go for some CE marking personally.

Adam,

You call £30.00 shipping from the US horrendous!

You don't ship regularly. Courier service costs have risen in recent years even in and out of the US, one of the worlds busiest locations.

Trying to make a pair of these in each pod look right without any acrylic covers is going to be interesting.

I have some 1mm carbon sheet, so will just cut this to fit and fasten with 4 stainless button socket bolts.

How many lights per pod? It would be easier to re-configure the pod to except the mod provided there was a lateral and vertical adjustment involved with the process. I'd have a go if I knew what kit was needed.

Andrew,

I think both Leigh and someone else posted pictures of their cars both with quad lamps installed but other than the lamps or Hella lamp's you just need what's in that Philips bulb link I posted above.

Hi Phill

like the you tube vid, ive just had a thought and it doesnt happen very often i had an audi A4 followed me home to night and his dead lights were rather cool looking, 1 dip full beem hid and a line of powerfull leds bellow it in a curve.
Im thinking this more than easly done on a wedge pod and would look soo cool.
Think i need to look for some spare pods to play with as im wanting to put more light out of the front of the SEAC too and the sindle or twin upgrade woud be the best way about it with modern lenses or i put on the dip full beem hid h4 pattern upgrade to start with.

Cheers
Cambelt

Tons of pictures of the Hella units:

http://www.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&...

London buses use their 90mm sealed units so they're waterproof which was one aspect I was concerned about.

Anyone going down this avenue please document your conversion with plenty of photo's.

on modern cars with xenon lights a self-levelling headlamp system, also a headlamp cleaning device is mandatory by law.

i wonder why?

so you think you can install such a cheapish xenon conversion kit and think it is really roadlegal?

ever thought about the oncomming traffic blinded by your cheapish lights and maybe causing an accident?

If you use OEM xenon headlamps such as the hella's you'll have the same as the LT buses which do not have headlamp washers or self levelling - so, in answer to your question, yes - probably.

I thing this is a load of bull, my lass has a 09 plated car with factory fitted HID's fitted and they havnt got any cleaning devices fitted so i have no probs fitting a updated lighting system to the SEAC and seeing if it will fail a mot.

I doubt the lighs would blind any on coming cars as cars havent always had ajustable head lights and im sure there is many cars running higher power out put bulbs that arent legle and they arent running people off the road.

What's the point of the 'headlamp cleaning device'? Surely the lamps would put out LESS light if they were dirty, since when was that illegal...? I can't see usual road muck acting as some kind of diffraction filter, redirecting the beam into oncoming traffic.

No, but it will diffuse the beam a little, spreading it out. It does seem a bit of a strange regulation, though.
