Would have no idea about a GMT (I know nothing about these), but a sub may be possible but it's not going to be easy to find or pretty.
You may possibly be able to find a head only, no box, no papers beat up sub in need of a service but I think it will be very hard work to track one down. If you could add somewhere between 500-1000 more, then you should be able to find a nice watch.

If you do a search I think you'll find this exact same question has been asked before, with several helpful answers.

Why not consider a used Tudor sub? Great watch, looks the same and easy within your price range.

I understand what you are saying, good luck with the search.
Have a look at some sites that sell used watches....Blowers for example will give you a good indication on dealer prices, or try some watch forums TZ-UK and the various Rolex forums should help you in pricing watches up for private sales.
All the best, I hope you find one.

Well there you have the proof, clearly I am a wrong on my pricing for these things, much nearer to £2k than I would have thought possible for such a nice, serviced watch with papers as well. Fantastic find!

There is a perfectly good Tudor Sub for £1,700 on TZ-Uk too.

It's been said that Tudor is what people buy when they stop thinking they must have a Rolex. I have an SD & an Exp II, but there are a couple of Tudor's on my wish list.

The movement, essentially.
Of the ilk when Tudor made the Submariner, it was identical to the contemporary 1680 Rolex Submariner Date, except the Rolex used an in-house movement and the Tudor used a modified ETA movement.
Nowadays there is more of a difference as Tudor don't use any Rolex cases (as far as I'm aware!).
