Insuring an import?
Discussion
Hi there
My girlfriend is looking for a car as hers was written off a couple of weeks ago. The budget is around 1k, so far we have been looking at celicas, mr2's etc.
Problem is insurance, its bloody expensive! not sure why really as she had a quote for a 36k S3 which was 1600 which is what we are being quoted for the Japs! I am baffled to say the least. (used to pay 600 on her almera)
Also her claim was a non fault as someone hit her up the bum at a junction, has this affected her insurance?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the essay.

Are you getting quotes from mainstream insurers or specialist brokers?
Mainstream insurers will generally arserape you for imports.
She is reluctant to leave Endsleigh as she is 7 months into her policy and would like the extra years NCB.Mainstream insurers will generally arserape you for imports.
Brokers? who would you recommend?
As for brokers, A-Plan, Sky, Chris Knott, Keith Michaels.
I'm with Chris Knott paying £560 a year fully comp on my MR2, mods declared(decat, exhaust, induction, boost controller, chargecooler, alloys) and I'm 29 with 6 yrs NCB. And thats with an £1800 fault claim included.

I have just got off the phone to Flux and they have qouted 1500! apparently insurance has gone up 40% for everybody, Ouch!
I think that's about the average across every company. I'm looking forward to my renewal. Did you says your a Pistonheads member? That should have saved you some money.Ash From Flux said:

How does that work though? A free forum anyone can join with no qualification bar being able to type slowly and potentially more likely to drive fast....hmmmm.
Has anyone actually got a quote THEN said "I'm a PH member" and instantly got a discount or is it "already in the quote I gave you?"
Cynical? Moi?
