Just had the grim news...

... Got a call from ProCoat down the road. They'd blasted the chassis and it wasn't good. Not horrific but not great.

Transpires that the chassis has been 'done' before. Probably a pertial body lift and the front O/S outrigger corner had been chopped out and replaced. Well, almost. the corner tubing and corner plate had been replaced but the plate had been welded (for the want of a better word) on top of the cut back stubs of the original. Also the previous hacker could not get to the top of the tub sections so left them open.

So, the chassis will have new outer tubes (complete, front to back), new tube sections to the chassis spine, new seat belt mount plates and new corner plates all round. The upstand on top of the outer tubes for the outer seat belt mount will also require manufacture. He also said that if he sees any others work on closer inspection he'll cover that off too.

£500.

Sounds a tad excessive but I've little to go on really.

Procoat will then reblast and powder coat in dark blue and also include Rad mount, tank cradle, battery tray and swirl pot. They're also blasting and etch priming wishbones, trailing arms, ARB, springs and vertical links.

£250

Which feels reasonable.

sounds fair to me, guess you've got the front diff mount bracket,gearbox crossmember and engine mounts included in there somewhere (anything else?).

think previous repair could qualify for "Bodge of the Month"

Sounds fair - and when you get the chassis back all shiny and powder coated you'll think it's worth every penny.
Just try not to scratch it too much, putting the engine / gearbox back in on the V8 got the most money in the swearbox

Thanks guys, a couple of less-than-happy snaps. Hope the chap that weld ed mine doesn't sctually kill somebody.







For those that noticed, I too wondered why the bolts securing the body to the 'new' corner plate were smaller than the rest.

The top picture is the open weld that the welder couldn't reach. Perhaps a Heineken then mate....
