Lubing STIs (no, not that sort)

So, having resurrected an old and seemingly defunct 105 8 speed lever by flushing all sorts of grot out with a can of GT85, what's the perceived wisdom on lubing? GT85 is supposed to have some lubricating properties but is a bit thin, so is there owt else I can squirt in without gumming it all up again?

just use the gt85 and cycle through the gears a few times, do that each wash and lube the cables and you'll be fine
