Actually no - There are more Strategy people at the factory than there are at the race, so its normal for a strategy person to be factory based. Most of it is sent to the team from a control centre at home. The track strategy person just accumulates and shares data

Not really. An awful lot of people in F1 really like to avoid going track side. Odd but the hours, the travelling etc get on people nerves

i may be totally wrong, but, i would image that as exciting as the job sounds, that in reality it would involve sitting in front of a computer analysing data

depends what floats your boat i guess, but i cant imagine it involves getting a cosy seat next to Chris and Aidie on the pitwall!

I could be wrong but won't some of this mission control strategy personnel be necessary due to the resource restrictions that limit the number of personnel allowed to be at any GP? Of course if it were, it would classic unintended consequences of trying to restrict spending just creating more expense in the workaround.

Exactly right. You see a computer screen for 12 hours, then a hotel room. It is ALOT More exciting that it sounds

@ Northern - the strategy people at the factory have been there for years - but you are right that there is a restriction in people at the track. Most teams just canned a few Marketing people from going :-), and met the numbers. But exactly right in that much of the work can be done back in the UK and sent over live links, even video analysis as links have vastly improved

I guess it would be awesome for the first few goes, then get a bit dull.

I suppose also if you are just staring at the screen all race long and don't actually get to see the race etc it might not be as good.

plus i would imagine it would be might distracting trying to do all sorts of complex calculations whilst being bombarded with the sound of 20+ (depending whether the HRTs make it to the grid!) at one-hundred-and-goodness-knows-what-decibels!
