Hi all.

Does anyone have any opinion of the 1.7s? Seen a very cheap one going and the bodywork looks reasonable for the year (H-plate), average enough mileage too. Going to view it next Thursday as a possible project between dad and myself; anything in particular I need to look for?

Cheers.

Boot floor where the bumper mounts are.

Around the fuel filler too.

Insurance companies all wanted at least £3k for insurance! Double what I pay for the 156, and for a car worth £200! Very angry, was looking forward to picking her up too. Gutted frown

Tell me about it mate, I lost my rag after the 4th successive insurance company gave me a ridiculous quote... I'm 20, and paid just under £1600 for the 156 this year. Noone on the phone could justify where exactly they were getting their premiums from, "it's just the way of the market at the moment, I can only do what my computer says..." and all that bks.

But, what more can you do? There's no wonder there's young people on our roads driving without insurance...

Insure it as a classic car then. Limit its mileage, even as high as 10k.

Suspect the reason the premiums are so high are due to the difficulties and therefore expense in finding parts for crash damage.

Thanks Alfa Pint. I tried MSM, though they specialise in kit and specialist really so their quote was 5k plus. Adrian Flux quoted over 3k. These were for 2k miles per annum.

Yeah, I keep looking at Adrian Flux too, but without any success. Seems to work for some people, but way too expensive on my cars.

Have you tried the Alfa Owners Club? Or Footman James?

I wasn't aware that AROC had an insurance company, so I'll give them and Footman James a try. Thanks, I'll keep you updated.

Footman James refused to quote, AROC through Chris Knott quoted 2150. Looks like the 33 dream has come crashing down! Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Final suggestion - admiral multicar policy with some of your family. You're still the main driver of the alfa and hold the policy for that car, but the overall policy is owned by your mum who's car is also insured on it too. I've got 3 cars insured for < £65 per month and one's a gp 17.
