Going to Arsenal v Tottenham - First time, what to expect?
Discussion
Hi everybody, this is the first Premier League match I am going to be attending. I have been to numerous League One matches (Brentford) and a couple of England internationals, but never a Premier League match.
What's it like? Specifically a match at the Emirates Stadium. Think I chose the right one, seeing as these two love each other so much. Will be travelling by tube to Finsbury Park Station.
Any tips? Advice? Things to look out for?
I will be going with my BiL (Arsenal supporter).

You have chosen a great fixture and a fantastic stadium..
You should have no problems getting there etc, but just be prepared to queue when leaving the stadium, but as a first timer, just relish the atmosphere.
My advice would be to eat before or take some sarnies in a bag with you. No Cans of drink etc are allowed.
Depending on which direction you are travelling in, we normally park the car at Cockfosters station and then get off at Arsenal Station.

You may like to learn a few refrains to help the day pass:
Oh when the Spurs,
Go marching in,
Oh when the Spurs, go marching in,
I wanna be in that number,
When the Spurs go marching in.
Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh!
Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh!
Come on you Spurs,
Come on you Spurs,
Come on you Spurs, ...
Oh when the Spurs,
Go marching in,
Oh when the Spurs, go marching in,
I wanna be in that number,
When the Spurs go marching in.
Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh!
Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh! Yid – I – Oh!
Come on you Spurs,
Come on you Spurs,
Come on you Spurs, ...

it will be like watching a football match in a library
Unfortunately I am expecting this.Be sure to post about your experience after the game, for the benefit of these Bottenham supporters.
Have a great time before, during and after the game.

Well you've picked the best stadium in the country! The only was is down.....even the seats are better than everywhere else. There will be a great atmosphere.
I suspect the sandwich advice is based on the cost of eating....there are plenty of places to get food both before the game an at half time. At half time on the concourse you can watch highlights on TV's and get food and drink, priced as you would expect for a monopoly.
As others have said getting away from the ground onto public transport isn't great...just take your time an don't let it get to you. In particular if you are heading to the Holloway Road afterwards it can be a big queue as the police control the flow of fans onto the Holloway Road.
It will be quiet in the Spurs corner.....you'll probably hear this from the Gooners at some stage

If you are worried about getting caught up in trouble you shouldn't...the police will keep the Spurs fans segregated post match. The people that want a punch up will meet a few hours later in some random pub nowhere near the ground....yes it does still go on. I nearly got caught up in a Spurs v West Ham fight after they played at West Ham a couple of years ago...they had the fight in a pub next to Liverpool St Station....it was pretty scary to be honest but luckily the police were all over it.

Thought it was only fair to come back and report on the experience.
Right, first off, what a collapse in the 2nd half! Arsenal did not look like the same team that played in the first half, started showboating towards the end of the first half whereas they should really have gone in for the kill and pushed for a 3rd goal. In the 2nd half, Tottenham supporters went mental after the final goal and rightly so.
Lots of funny comments thrown about about the Tottenham players, learnt that Gareth Bale is known as 'Monkey Head', also dives a lot. Also got to hear the chant about 'Arry having a twitch, as well as the one about Spurs f****** off to Stratford, very funny
.
The atmosphere was pretty good, not like watching a match in a library as described by another poster, although I suspect this could have something to do with being a derby match.
Other things I learnt: Arshavin is short, as is Lennon (obviously). Arsenal need a proper goalkeeper and a midfield ball-winner, Denilson is too young (also weak) for the role. Tottenham have great heart, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win as they did.
All in all, enjoyed the experience.
