Having transformed my weekend toy into a full blown race car, i have Bern thinking back to the modifications that have made the biggest transformations in the way the car feels.

Overall my favourites have been going from traditional injection to weber 45's for the sound and response and the nostalgic feel it gives the engine. Althought the stiffening and race suspensions makes it a lot quicker, having removed the power steering has given the car a far nicer response and input and provides much better driving "feedback".

So what have you done to your car to make it more pleasurable or enjoyable to drive. Often I find these are far more important than the overall performance gains.

Bought an already modified car, raising it 30mm took it off the bumpstops and actually let the suspension work properly!

A good bucket seat made a big difference to driving feel too, no more using the knees to brace myself in fast corners.

My M3 is 100% standard apart from the brakes have been swapped for AP kit all round. The standard cars weakest point has been transformed into one of its strongest. These should have been fitted from the factory!

I've always used my cars on the track since I was 17 years old, and its always been the standard brakes that have been their weakest area. Brakes have always been top of the list for any upgrading, and always will be - Even the best road car setups can be improved upon without too much compromise on the road.

Nice sounding exhaust wink

The TR7 has had loads of mods, drives very different to a standard one. Not the fastest but lots of fun and feedback. Shore 70 bushes, kyb shocks, Spax struts, stiffer shorter springs, 225 up from 175 width tyres. Lt headers, cam, Edlebrock 500cfm, bucket seats, harnesses, bigger brakes.

Regards lowering the car, I have god it amazing the lengths I've has to go to top prevent bump steer and other negative effects while running it low for a good set up. Many people don't seem to realise the effect just lowering a car has!

Also going from a standard sports seat to a high sided race seat was amazing, being able to properly control the car under lateral g and not falling out of the seat!!

When I bought my 2006 Mustang it was lowered 2" over the stock ride height the springs were also stiffer than stock. The ride was crashy and generally unpleasant. The front end was too cambered in as well resulting in uneven tyre wear (so many people lower their cars without taking into account the affect on the geometry of the suspension).

The first mod was to correct the camber with some adjustable caster & camber strut mounts, (had braided brake hoses fitted at the same time).

I bought adjustable dampers, Roush Springs (only 1" lowering) and ended up spending a load more on tubular A-Arms and Control arms with polly bushes. What a transformation the car felt instantly better. Well worth what I paid out to get the bits and get them fitted.

Insurance didn't go up much either which was a bonus smile
