What is it with fog that seems to attract the morons onto the road????.
Just been out driving along the 406 and within 200 yards of each other there are two pile ups the first one involving 2 cars but the second had about 7 in it, it's hardly that foggy yet the tts still manage to cause chaos.

Well, I got overtaken twice tonight in a 15 minute journey, and yes, it was still thick fog.....

I think it's safe to say that some people have no idea about driving to the conditions...Still, as long as they are not speeding they are safe eh?!!?

Not sure about that, overtaking is the worst crime you can commit

It's the overuse of fog lights that gets me. Nottingham has been particularly foggy today and I have not seen need to have my front or rear fog lights on as it's not that bad. I was the minority on the way home from work tonight with them not being on.

Don't worry, come July time, those same people will finally switch them off again.

Seen a few drivers bombing along the motorway at 100+mph...

...with their rear fogs blazing.

The mind boggles.

M5 between Bristol & Exeter, last night at around 2200, Mini Cooper S in heavy rain with rear fog bliding everyone. Not the only offender either.

Just shows a complete lack of driving knowledge, It should be a 3 point penalty.

The opposite is also very prevalent. Too many people in poor visibility drive around with only sidelights or even no lights on. Coupled with driving too fast for the conditions, I suppose its OK as they aren't breaking the posted speed limit though. confused

That is really doing my nut now punch

I find rear fog lights really quite unconfortable to follow. Currently driving for 2.5 to 3hrs a day in the dark so encountering it a lot.

Do these people not realise that they can see the other cars ahead perfectly fine by their normal rear lights despite the fog? I'm talking at 500 metres let alone sat in traffic. Complete arsehats.

Beginning to wonder whether modern cars even need dedicated rear fog lights given how much brighter lights are these days.

Must admit last night I did have my rear fogs on for a bit, but that was on lanes where "I know there's a bend here but where the f**k has the road gone?" bad. The ones who leave them on around town in traffic need shoot

Sure when it's not foggy, don't use them, but a lot of people on here seem to be complaining about people using fog lights when it is foggy.

I was going to Manchester a few weeks ago and it was pissing it down on the M1. Tons of people with no lights or just side lights on, but a few with fogs on too.

I can forgive the morons who turn on their rear fogs then forget to turn them off, but in heavy traffic one guy decided to turn his on, yes mate we could already fking see you there. Tit.

Only when you're in traffic does it get particularly annoying although front fogs are, for the most part, pointless, and just provide a means to blind you in the wet.

They're only really required when visibility is extremely poor (100m or less) but a good guide would be if you can see the car in front with just it's rear lights on in plenty of time then fog lights aren't going to be necessary.

i left work in kent yesterday evening 16:30ish

a guy from another building got in car next to me

fired it up, on go all lights, including front and rear fogs, I asked him why and he said it was foggy this morning.........................

i said its not even fully dark yet wiht just a few clouds in the sky, he said it may get foggy later so better safe than sorry

I went past him on a 50 limit dual carriage way, he was doing less than 30 with everything lit up nice and bright.....

Thing is, it has to be really foggy (visibility below 100m) before you are legally obliged to turn on your fog lights. I've been driving for over twenty years and can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've had to turn on my fog lights.

The clue is in the title - they're fog lights, not "slight mist" lights.

I've always said that the illuminated switch for fogs should be as bright as the lights themselves - no excuses for leaving them on then.

Fully agree with all of this, however, what gets on my wick even more, are the tossers that drive with 'side' lights on only during fog, or parking lights. You see the outline of the car before the pitiful 5w bulb that is supposed to illuminating the way.
Surely dipped beam is the only way with front fogs (which I reckon are pretty much useless)as an extra and rears out of town and only when properly foggy.....

Correct, the clue is in the title, "Fog.... When the retard come out to play", not "Slight mist.... When the retard come out to play". I think the OP is saying it's foggy, not a slight morning mist.
