Spent a couple of hours driving around in a friends e60 530i, it was on the shortlist for the next family car (albeit in a smoker format) and have to admit its on the brink of being scrubbed of the list....it just didn't do "it" for me, it just didn't deliver what i expected, it all seemed a bit vague tbh, steering, inconsistent gear selection, poor brake fell etc. Was it just a duffer as it only had 30k so should have still felt tight as a drum for a German motor.

So the questions to the PH masses are:

a) was it a duff one and should try another before scrubbing it off the list?
b) Has anyone else experienced this problem of really liking a motor only to drive it and be let down by its performance?

discuss.....

Why not just drive another to confirm either way. If it's something on your short-list and one disappoints, then surely it's madness to just cross it off if you think it may just be a ste example...??? confused

Drove from Bath to Dover to test drive an R32 GTR Skyline. I'd been hankering after one for a couple of years and couldn't wait to get behind the wheel. This one had a claimed 350bhp and looked great in the metal, big and imposing with real presence. Unfortunately the test drive was a complete anti-climax, it didn't feel particularly quick, it felt heavy and uncommunicative. Totally put me off the idea now.

I moved my E60 3.0D Msport on after 3 months because I was completely underwhelmed by it.

I think the biggest issue for me was that the inside just never seemed a welcoming or special place to be.

From your list, I was happy with the brakes, but I also found the steering dead. I came to the conclusion it was actually pretty accurate when really pushing on, but it still never seemed to have any feel or life in it.

Fraid so....and a car I had wanted for years, a '90 C4 Corvette, dark red, black leather, brand new Borla exhaust system, mint!

In a word, rubbish. Drove well enough with no issues.
It was quick for the 1st 10 meters of flooring it, but I found the car was just a large boat with the steering wheel on the wrong side!
Not particularly quick!
Didn't sound a patch on my old TVR's!
Handled like a go cart, and I really mean a go cart!

Only saving grace for me was it looked good parked!

Utterly dissappointed!

I've had a few e60s in low/mid spec as BMW loan cars and I've always found them decent wafters on the motorway, but a bit dreary otherwise.

Drove a older A4 Cab earlier in the week. As usual the trader had lied his arse off on the phone, and the power for 3.0 was to me deeply unimpressive, as was the shake, rattle and roll. Given the roads we have it would be in pieces in short order.

Missus now collecting a C320cdi Merc instead.
