"Euro" trip 2011...

Hi everyone

As most of you will know, in September a group of us in 16 S's and one Griffith completed a little trip to the Alps. On the last night together our thoughts turned to what to do in 2011.

To cut a long story short...



Using google maps for approx mileages and timings on the suggested routes (which you do not have to follow ) the plan is:

Thurs 5/5/11 – The Great North Run
Depending where you are coming from, preference etc, there is the choice of meeting up on the way to or at a great pub for lunch in a village between Kirkby Stephen and the M6 followed by an afternoon sprint up the M6 to hotel near Loch Lomond, or meet with the rest of the group later in the day at hotel.

Fri 6/5/11 – Highland Games
200 miles minimum / 4.5hrs driving time
225 miles maximum / 5.75hrs driving time
Awesome roads will take us up the west coast of Scotland to our base for the next 2 nights, a superb hotel on the edge of a Loch with award winning beer and food.

Sat 7/5/11 – The North Face
150 miles minimum / 3.5hrs
200 miles medium / 5hrs
287 miles maximum / 6.75hrs

Explore northwest coast of Scotland. There are a couple of routes to choose from depending how much time each person wants to spend driving, whether you want to eat a nice long relaxing lunch somewhere or spend some time chilling out at the hotel.

Sun 8/5/11 – Edinburgh Festival
215 miles minimum / 4.5hrs
240 miles maximum / 5.75hrs
East towards Inverness then south on the rollecoaster roads over the Cairngorms to Edinburgh.

Mon 9/5/11 – Break for the Border
Emotional goodbyes & home

Cost
£279.75 per person sharing a twin or double room (no ferries, motorway tolls or exchange rates to consider this time )
The cost will be the same if you are on your own in your car and share a room with someone else.
Price includes 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast.

Full maps and satnav files will be sent to everyone before we leave.

Those on Euro Tour 2010 have had first refusal and the list of runners and riders so far is:

If Mr Plow brings a passenger there are 8 spaces remaining. If he doesn’t there are 9 spaces and he’d be looking to share a twin room with anyone else on their own in their car to avoid a single supplement.

We are restricted by the size of the Friday & Saturday hotel - there are 2 rooms available that can only be used as doubles, plus 2 that can be used as doubles or twins.

If more than 8 people want to come they can, but they will need to stay in the nearest village (which is lovely) 6 miles away and drive to/from the hotel for dinner in the evening. I can get prices if necessary. There may be the chance of a taxi if you’d like to drink with your meal but they are not cheap in this remote part of Scotland…

If you’d like to come I will need a £50 deposit per person and confirmation of whether you’ll need a twin or double room.

I don't think it'll be quite as warm in Scotland as it was at the Le Mans Classic this year

For anyone else thinking about coming, the main base for the Friday and Saturday nights is now full. However if you'd still like to come you can. Only catch is for those 2 nights you'll have to stay in the nearest village which is too far to walk so will mean not much and about 10mins if you want to eat with the rest of the group which, given where we are staying, you will

Let me know if you're interested and I'll contact the places in the village to get some rooms sorted for you.

Thursday & Sunday rooms will not be a problem, there are plenty of spaces for everyone to stay together (at the moment).
