How can I tell if an E90 330i is the 258 bhp or 272 bhp varient?

Reg is YC55 EXH if that helps.

I think you mean PS. Looks like the more powerful version didnt come until 2007.

330i EUR 2005–2007 3.0 L I6 258 PS (190 kW; 254 bhp) 300 N·m (221 lb·ft)
330i EUR 2007+ 3.0 L I6 272 PS (200 kW; 268 bhp) 320 N·m (236 lb·ft)

You are quite right - I mean PS but I wish it was still quoted in HP!

The garage I have just spoken to are convinced it is a 272 PS but I do not want to travel miles to see it to find out it is not. The reason being, apart from the extra power, is the improved mpg.

Happy to be proved wrong, but I am pretty sure they are talking pish. Call BMW spec line if you want to be sure, but the reports I am reading say the more powerful/economical version didn't hit until 2007.

Agree - had a look at wiki and it seems it is 2007 onwards.

Very annoying but glad to have done the research. Trying to look on the E90 Forum UK but computer not playing the game!

The 272ps (268bhp) version wasn't available to buy new until 3rd September 2007.

HTH biggrin

ETA: I had a Volvo dealership try to tell me an old shape S80 D5 was the 185bhp version once, when it was clearly the 163bhp model. I wonder how many people they convince with these lies/misinformation?

It is now off the list - annoying as it seemed just what I wanted. Will have to see how the 2 x 330d M Sports go now - both have 68K on 2006 plates, excessive or just run in?

I'd actually call that pretty low mileage considering that they're usually a bit reppy.

I have a budget of £20k for an estate and a saloon.

Have seen what looks like a nice Audi A4 Avant 3.0 tdi S Line for the estate side of things so have around £12k for the saloon.

Mileage will be less than 20k a year now - always had petrol BMWs but like the though of a 'd' varient, more for the different experience rather than the economy. The new 330i seemed to be a great half way house.

Would like a manual rather than auto also.

You've found an A4 3.0 TDI Avant S-Line for £8k??? I'd research that further before you think you've got £12k left for your saloon.

Different plates front and rear and a very low price for the car/mileage. Adv check HPI and panel gaps very carefully if you go for a look.

Does look nice though.

Good spot with the plates - the chap has not got back to me either yet, by email of phone, so may be a little ropey.

Would get it inspected anyway as a matter of course (I know they are not always worth the money but it gives some peace of mind) which would come with an HPI check etc.

Buying 'Grown Up' cars is dangerous - going back to my £1500 limit. The E46 328i and E39 523i are still going strong after 2 years and 50k miles.

Just another thought; I'm pretty sure that's not an S-Line front bumper either, although I'm sure S Line Luxury'll be along soon with the "facts".
