full fat vs sport
Discussion
hi everyone, advice needed........
'
am looking at getting either and early sport tdv6 or and an '05 RR td6
the reason for my indecision is that i would ideally like the sport but i also like the range rover and they are a little bit less money wise, however i had an 03 plate range rover a while ago but it was terrible, forever breaking down.....i have also had a discovery which was great but i preferred the comfort of either teh sport or the full fat.....hence the thought of the sport, same parts as disco so more quite
so the question is in my head is range rover - worse mpg, larger, less money but more unreliable? or sport - more reliable, more money better mpg........
cheers guys

Same boat here to although we are looking for a 4.2 S/c. Tried the Diesel 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder and would only buy the 8 whch is later and more expensive so the 4.2 is our only option.
As regards Sport ot FF having never been in either I had an open mind. In fact I was probably more tuned into the Sport as a "drivers" car. It didn't take long to realise that the Sport is not a Range Rover. It's a low priced facsimilie. To me the interior feels cheap and plasticy. I appreciate there is a significant price difference in the 2 and it shows. SWMBO didn't like the way the cockpit goes round you where the FF is like sitting at a large sideboard. Very little room in the back of the Sport as well, especially if the driver is over 6ft.
We have decided to go FF but the problem is going to be finding a dark exterior colour with plain ivory leather. All the recent ones are like this but there seems to be very few 2006 or 2007 models with my desired spec.

I'm in the same predicament although space could well be the decider. Could anyone give an opinion on whether a Sport is big enough, on a day to day basis, for three children (one in a baby seat and the other two in boosters) plus assorted gubbins and a dog!
The Sport is definitely not big enough for 3 across the back. Disco the best for this as it has a flat rear bench seat. The Sport and FFRR have sculpted seats in the rear which will make this very hard. On the Disco one of the kiddies can go in the 3rd row if needed......plus the dog. If you have a big dog the things to bear in mind are that the Sport has a chopped off rear which really restricts the head room in the boot, plus it doesn't have a drop down split tailgate like the FFRR or Disco, so the rear bumper will take a punishing with scratches if you let the dog jump in and out. The Rnage Rover is lovely, but again the Disco is a much more practical car....If you have a dog guard fitted you will struggle to use the rear sits in a Disco
Our Sport is a pretty sweet family car to my surprise - I really should stop saying that
My choice was Disco or FF, both of which the misses vetoed
TBH Im glad she nuked the Disco as it felt pretty sluggish (yes Ive driven the 3.0TDV6)
And much as I loved the FF it was just too wallowy to be fun when driving alone
Thus we ended up with a Sport which makes me very very happy
I can get 3 in the back, but it is a squeeze if you have 3 child seats
Any combination with 2 is fine
Im 6'2" and happily carry adults sitting behind me
We also have a big dog who is very happy in the boot
Cheers

I have a FFRR S/C and it's gorgeous. Would highly recommend it, not too wallowy at all especially when considered against its size.
EVERY luxury you can think of, comfy for huge miles if needed, the most practical vehicle I've ever owned too.
The only car I know of that will happily take push chair/buggy, associated family gumpf and still easily swallow a full supermarket shop for a months shopping and still have plenty of room, parcel shelf still down and rear seats occupied.
When moving I even had it taking boxes to big yellow storage and you'd easily get 9 or more archive box size boxes and other bits in there.

I've had two RR Sports and now on a RR Vogue.
The Sport handles well but there is turbo lag on the 2.7 version and always at the worst possible time. They are reasonably nippy and corner with less roll that the RR.
I now have a Vogue as an everday car and, whilst more expensive, it is a far nicer place to be than in the Sport. It does roll a bit more on corners but doesn't seem to suffer from turbo lag. It also isn't slow.
I can't really think of a nicer driving environment and my TDV8 returns about 27 -28 mpg on longer runs.

my friends sport is more car like to drive, but thats not what I was looking for ...and no more room in it than my old RS6 estate
so a FFRR it had to be...i dont drive it super fast anyway, it handles just fine
Picked up a mint 2004 with 50K on the clock for £16K at an indy, if you are quick looking on the trader you can find the odd beauty
Saxton 4 x 4 in Essex always have loads in, but you probably pay a small premium from them.....I did have a look when I was buying, they were all mint cars, well prepped

if anyone know a nice FFRR less than £20k, FSH blue / grey / silver with cream please point me in the right direction, ideally with about 60k or less on the clock and no earlier than an '04 plate.....cheers
We have a Range Rover Vogue SE, td6 in buckingham blue, parchment/navy leather. front TV, rear DVD and 2 tone leather. Its '06' for £24500. Any good or too much ?
Try and get a facelifted 06 model. Mine is one of the very first and was actually registered in July 05!
Some of the 54/05 have all the new touch screen nav (massive improvement) and new differentials (which caused no end of problems in the earlier ones, but were all recalled for free) , whilst still having the older, square front lights.
The 06 model also has a reverse camera and venturecam
I've looked at approximately 15 over the last 6 months, and ended up with an immaculate 05 Vogue with 50k miles for 19k.
