Currently use an oil fired boiler for C/H and hot water, boiler is now 13 years old and thinking about replacement in a year or two. We do not have a mains gas supply to our area so thinking wood pellet boiler, they seem expensive but any thoughts? Be pleased to hear of experiences.

I might be wrong but I think next year there will be grants available for those moving to wood pellet heating. I was looking into it a month or so ago and am convinced i saw it stated that details would be released early 2011.

Worth waiting for this.

Before going down this route make sure you have a secure source of fuel and somewhere to store it.

Cousin has one, but has now installed a different boiler as the price of pellets shot up too much.

Have you seen the size of the storage tank

They are fecking huge

Only consider it if you have loads and loads of space, also tech has moved on and there are automatic burners which you just fed with logs

Wonder if they'll think up a system that burns human waste? After all dung is burned for fuel in third-world countries and we can't afford much more these days.
