Further to the lounge thread on 'The Perfect Product' what is the perfect watch?

On that thread people have mentioned IWC and Omega Speedmaster but wondered what the collective view is?

Also what's the criteria?

Ease of use and comfort, design, movement, function, usability, cost but taking into account depreciation and durability?

Personally I'd vote Rolex but unsure between GMT2 and Sub Date as only design seems to differentiate them and most owners I know love them and use them for any occasion, both casual and formal.

Ease of use ...
If that was a criteria then thousands of watches would qualify. Indeed I don't think I've ever had a watch that was difficult to use, it is after all a relativly simple thing to operate for a half intelligent human being. I expect most people with say, a driving licence, would be able to operate a wrist-watch quite easily. hehe

Iconic certainly, but factor in the cost element and truthfully it probably has to be

Whilst I can see the attraction that is about as far from perfection to me as its possible for a watch to be, I'm only considering reasonable candidates for perfection here of course ... smile

I guess it just shows how different tastes are, and that perfection is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Really don't know what I personally would suggest for perfection.

Rolex Submariner Date. It's perfection (just does not tell the time that well) : )

Cheers,

Cost aside for me it's got to be automatic, waterproof, day, date & shockproof. That's a five then!

It's a question very akin to what is the best watch, or the best album or drink or gramophone or...well, you get the idea. Unanswerable except from a personal persective. For me, it's mine; for you, it's yours. There isn't 'one' as such unless you define it by specific criteria which themselves are open to interpretation and personal perspective.
That's just my, er, opinion man.

Well lets see - the SD is now worth about 160% of what I paid, so that makes it pretty cost effective in my book.

Certainly what defines perfection is extremely personal. I have more expensive, beautiful, better made & more functional watches than the SD, but it's just the one that covers most bases for me.

It cost you thousands and you said you wouldn't want to sell it. That's not cost effective in any way whatsoever. hehe

Thanks, that's look very nice. I guess it being a limited edition means finding one will be difficult.

Commanding good money, between £500-£650.
That's a little high I think. The "J" version (assembled in Japan) commands that sort of price; there's one on e-bay right now. The "K" version a bit less although mine is unworn.
