Have other wedgers had this happen to them? This 280i has about 40k on the odometer and started to refuse to go into gear. Stuck in neutral at the worst times. I redid slave and master cylinders and even insulated the copper pipe between them in case of heat causing a vapor lock to the slave. What was really happening was that the rod from the slave cylinder to the throw out yoke was the cause. The conical metal tip had worn and would jam into the slot on the yoke. It was a compromised design to begin with. A proper ball and socket has been fabricated to prevent it failing again. Is this a one-off fluke or have any of you guys had this happen to you?
Also, sold the Indycar (ex Vern Schuppan, Scott Brayton). Way too scary and above my skill level. Much more happy with Marcos V8 and Triumph racers. Would trade both for a TVR racer of any vintage.
Have fun.

Richard,
Glad you found the problem. Sometimes when there is a problem getting a 280i in gear, it can also be traced to the little plastic bushing at the base of the shift lever which tends to disintegrate over time.
