Hey, I've recently become the owner of a mk3 capri and as I've mentioned in another post I am still very new to all this so thought I'd ask people with a bit more knowledge before I go messing about with things!

The car pasted its MOT not too long ago but there are a couple things I'd like to adjust before I start using it.

There is quite a bit of play on the accelerator pedal, about an inch and a half. Its not exactly causing a problem but is quite annoying to push the pedal and not get anything back. Can I ask how I can adjust this so that there isn't that much play??

don't know anything about capri's but surely its just a cable driven accelerator - so adjust the cable possibly at the pedal, or at the engine end and make it taught...to check the engine response open the throttle manually under the bonnet - if it revs up as expected you just need to tighten (or replace) the accelerator cable....shouldn't be a big deal.

Check the engine end, there may be an in-line adjuster on the cable that you turn to shorten or lengthen the cable. It was like this on early Sierras anyway, I can't remember what a Capri engine bay looks like. I imagine that by now it may be quite brittle though.

I used to have a 2.0s - was my first car.

As others have said, sound like a slack cable. You can adjust it where the throttle cable joins the throttle - if memory serves, you can pop the cable out, screw the plastic adjuster in a few turns, and pop the cable back in position. Do this with engine running, as you dont want to take out too much slack, or you'll engine up with a high idle.

Hey thanks people! Sounds quite simple enough, I'll have a look at tightening it at the engine end and see what happens. Could there be anything else I need to look for while I'm there? Its just one of those things that will bug me for every if I don't do it, ha!

Here's a few more under the bonnet.

I believe its the white nut I need to adjust to take up the slack, but will that be enough? As there is a good inch and a half of play on the accelerator pedal at least.

Hope these give a better idea of what I'm 'trying' to talk about, haha!

Yes it is the white nut. You may want to check the crankcase breather system as well, as it looks as though it has been breathing a bit out of the oil filler cap.
