So have 3-4 days as a stopover between moving onwards for our honeymoon.

Have about £200/night for a hotel and need some ideas of things to do- know that there are some PH ex-parts on here so any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Stick this question in the Asia section as well...

Plenty to see and do here for 4 days...

Are you into food (Good food in most places, what do you like? Curry in Little India? Chinese in China Town?)
Theme parks (Sentosa Island)?
Architecture (some of the older, colonial stuff is nice like Raffles hotel but the modern stuff is pretty cool)?
Casinos (Marina Bay Sands)?
Shopping (Orchard Road)?
Drinking (most places, but Boat Quay, Clarkey Quay, Robertson Quay are all good and central)?
Get some clothes made?
Zoo/ Night safari?

There is something for everyone really and I can definitely recommend staying in Raffles or the Fullerton, or even Fullerton Bay. I don't hear good reports about Marina Bay sands, to stay in and there are some excellent hotels in the Orchard area, which would suit a couple on Honeymoon.

Plus, I am sure there will be some PHers up for a beer if you get bored!

It's a small place so you can get round most of it in 4 days I am sure!

I've just finished entertaining a couple of mates over here - we did the following:

Evening 1. Cheesy tourist dinner at Boat Quay by the river followed by drinks in Clarke Quay (Wednesday Night is Ladies Night)

Day 2. Bit of a look round electronics at Funan Mall (and the Maid Cafe) followed by the Zoo. Evening was spent eating at Customs House, and a trip to the Marina Bay Casino.

Day 3. Shops at Orchard Road, Sentosa (went to Siloso Point and did the flow rider waves). Evening was spent on the SkyPark at MBS, dinner at Arab Street, and drinks on Club Street.

You could probably add on another night at the Night Safari and more time shopping, and you'd still have an additional day for sightseeing - Mount Faber, Bukit Timah, Fort Canning etc.

Depends on what time ...... last wednesday it could have been Brewerkz or Iguana or Harrys .... or Highlander ... Or Octapas ... or pump room .... ummmm there were a few more on that list but it gets a bit hazy!!!

Gone off brewerkz / Iguana a bit since they had their big management reshuffle .... service and consistant quality has fallen off a tad, but then thast what happens whem MOM clamps down on them and insists that they have to have a 75% local hire quota in an industry where no locals want to work .... nuts

However agreed on a need for a pissup!

thanks for the tips guys

we like a mish-mash really- good food is up on the list, but we are on a bit of a budget so can't be too expensive. Like to do cultural stuff, so a couple of days doing touristy things (ie themeparks etc) followed by temples/architecture/places locals go etc etc would be excellent.

We are planning on staying at www.nikoi.com for 10 days which hopefully is worth the trip- seems to have good reviews anyway.

If anyone knows anywhere else that would be worth a look- have about up to £200/night.

If you like walking then its a nice walk around McRichie park (or at least i think that was what it was called, its been 4 years since i was there) they also have some rain forrest to walk through too.
I personally found Sentosa Island very disapointing, I used the lonly planet book on Singapore and did all the different walks such as little India, China town etc and found them very good.
You wont get bored in 4 days for sure, I spent 6 weeks in Singapore (working during the week days) and filled all my time up looking around, loved it, and as mentioned, the food is lick

You can eat great food here at reasonable prices (unless you order a couple of bottles of vino). I stayed in the Studio M hotel last time I was a paying visitor - not sure what the prices are like now it's finished but the location is good.

I walked to Mount Faber yesterday and then bussed it over to Sentosa - head out to Silosa Point and there is a wave rider, and some pretty cool beach bars (I hated Sentosa first time I went there, but it's growing on me).

I live pretty much next to Studio M/ Gallery hotel, so I can vouch for the area. Orchard Road and all the Quays are only a walk away. In fact, China Town and the CBD are pretty close if you put your walking shoes on and don't mind sweating.

Sentosa has changed a lot in the last few years, I actually quite like it and have friends who live there. Maybe scratch that, I think I lost them in the 'divorce'.

There are a few temples and things scattered around but it is very multicultural, which means there is plenty to see and experience, though it is not as old and religious as say a Thailand.

If I was here for 4 days I would stay at Raffles, eat at Raffles, drink at Loof and hang out at Chijmes, all within about 50m of each other smile No taxis needed and I could crawl home! Then again, I like drinking and I am not very cultural...

hehe kinda got that vibe already!!!

all the rainforrest walks around Mt Macrichie, the various parks and the sky walk are all on here.

TBH not been out to Sentosa for anything other than sailing and pissups at One15 for years so not up to speed on what its like there!

Chinatown, Ann Seng Hill, Fort Canning Hill and Little India are all great walking spots too, or if you want to be realy "cultural" take an evening walk through Geylang!

hehe Don't know what you mean!

Tanjong Beach Club (http://www.tanjongbeachclub.com/) seems to be a regular haunt for my crowd these days... I am yet to be convinced but it's good if you are down that way, anyway!

The various parks and canopy walks are kind of cool, but sweaty! I sweat a lot. That could be something to do with the drinking though! Having said that, I was in the gym at 6:30am this morning!

I would also be tempted to head up to New Asia Bar in the Stamford, just to take in the view etc and drinks are surprisingly reasonable, especially during happy hour. It also happens to be in my Raffles, Loof, Chijmes triangle wink The roof of the Fullerton Bay hotel is cool for drinks (service is slow) and the Lighthouse restaurant in the 'proper' Fullerton Hotel is very nice, though I like the courtyard restaurant in Raffles better. You should probably go to the Long Bar in Raffles for a Singapore Sling, though it is rubbish, overpriced and boring. Sorry, but it is the 'thing' to do.

You should probably do a Sunday brunch as well... I still prefer Fullerton over the Hyatt (Orchard) as the vibe is better with the natural daylight but it is all good, regardless!

Hmmm... What else, what else? There is plenty to see and do in 3-4 days, you could easily fill a couple of weeks really. I am (after 6 months) finding life somewhat repetitive, but the quality of life is excellent, even if it is somewhat expensive.

Maybe try and organise a meet while you are here and we can get you round the Quays? Maybe start at BQ/ Harry's bar and work our way up through BQ, CQ and finish at Boomerang or something?

Looks quite funky, there is something similar but not as classy on East Coast Park oposite Bayshore called Mana Mana that is cool, and cheep piss!

Been here years and i still sweat like a paedophile in a Santa Suit whenever out in these places.

To OP However the walks are fantastic, Singapore is a surprisingly green city, with lots of Jungle still present. Just make sure you bring some deet or other mozzie spray and sun block

New Asia Bar is one of my favourites, great to get there about 5:30 before the office crowd rock up, get a window table and enjoy teh views as Singapore lights up. Also entertaining watching the Trolly Dolly's from SIA trying to pull!!

Loof was a hangout of mine when it opened about 6 yearsa go God have i been here THAT long!!!

Fullerton Bay is a great place for After Dark too, also quite a cool spot for seeing swanky cars, last time i was there i managed to block in 4 lambo's hehe

Doc Cheng's was my favourite in Raffles but i believe it has closed down, SIngapore sling as mentioned is cheezy but a must, order at the bar so that they make it properly, and remember to throw peanut shells on the floor.

Good point on a Champaign Brunch, it is a must, something unique to Singapore, just dont plan anything for Monday Morning. $150 a head at the fullerton gets you an all you can eat fine dining buffet (this is more Egon Ronay than local carvery) and freeflow Tattanger champers from 11am to 4pm. No one leaves sober!!!

Well if you are doing all your (significant evidently) socialising around your Chjimes triangle, Fullerton and Sentosa i am not surprised that it is costing you a bob or two hehe

Good point on the archetecture, the old stuff Like Fullerton, Raffles and Goodwood Park hotels are well worth a wander around, Also the Istana (malay for Palace) and the various old museums are interesting to see. Lau Pa Sat the old Victorian fish market turned eating place on Cross Street (part of your chinatown route) and the Budhist Sailors temple on Teolk Ayer Street (hard to imagine that in the 1900's that was only 2 or 3 roads away from the quayside yikes

Not so much for a 3 or 4 day trip but for the likes of Dom, try a trip to the ColBar on Portsdown Road, very funky, or you could come over to my place, at 60 years old the building is getting on by singapore standards hehe

There is also some very funky modern archetecture here that is worth a squizz too though!

One of the best things i did in Singapore was eating in a shopping mall food court most nights. The equivalent here would be burgers, pizzas and hotdogs, but in Singapore it was top notch food from all over the world at a good price, and most importantly it was buzzing with locals.

it's true, very rarely do we cook at home!

Food Courts are indoors, usually in shopping centers / malls and are airconditioned. pay between $4 and $10 for a meal. Every mall will have a food court.

Hawker centers are outdoors and all over the place - pay between $2 and $5 for a meal.

Beer is $3 / $4 a can or $5.50 / $7 a 600ml bottle.

The stall with the biggest queue will have the best food.

any stall that is getting no trade will not be very good.

I am off downstairs for my S$2 lunch!

Will make a nice change from my nights out... I don't think I have got away with less than S$500 a night for the past couple of weeks (though I haven't been out every night, just maybe 4-5 a week)... Ah well, guess I don't have to save up for a house these days as my apartment in London will suffice for a single man, if/ when I go home frown

Watching all that rugby on the Saturday hasn't helped!

New year, new savings plan (already worked out with HSBC)... Trying to enjoy single life while it lasts! I am not that good at staying single/ sober!

OP - Let us know when you are over and whether you would enjoy our company... I am guessing 'not' on your honeymoon, but hey; the offers there!

$500 / night yikes even at Harrys prices thats 30 beers an evening!!! (recon i average out at about $70 / night on booze!! This country is hard on the liver!!!! )

And no, if you are spepnding like that the local girls just will not allow you to stay single hehe

You should try KPO, always a good place to meet a nice girl that is not of a professional nature from OT hehe

edit - noticed a trend, whenever anyone asks tourist advise about Singapore the thread fairly rapidly degenerates into the drinking habits of us residents paperbag
