Breadvan or Z4M (Taking future values into account!)
Discussion
Having owned a Z3M a couple of years ago and loving it to bits (accept the seats) and driven a mates Z4M a couple of times I am drawn to the Z4M. My question is with 4M values at about 20k and good 3m's up at 15k+ which is the safer bet for future values?
I can't see 4m's going below 3M money so I think they'll both end up about the same with maybe 1 or 2k in the 4m's favour. That would also suggest to me that good low mileage 4M's will not drop much further than where they are now.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

I'd choose a Z3m coupe everytime. Not a particularly informed opinion, I just think they look the nuts and the Z4 looks a bit hairdresser.
I do understand though, value wise, that the Z3m coupe is a rare car so maybe won't loose much value.

Whilst residual value is important in the long term, I'd put your own enjoyment and preference above this. Buy the car you prefer! Neither is going to plummit in value to nothing.
For me, it would be the Z4MC. I think its a fantastic shape (so is the breadvan of course), and I'm really thinking seriously about one to replace the M3 as a bit more of a long term ownership keeper ...... a 996 GT3 is just too much money for me, and I don't want a "vanilla" 911.

Cheers guys. I keep looking at the classifieds and thinking what else? £20k budget and so many to choose from! As said the only 911 (996) I could go for would be either a GT3 or maybe a Turbo but running costs would be huge compared to a BM. (I do pop in and have a look at 993's but £20k still isn't enough for the right car)
CSL - Too expensive. Noble - too kit car (I work with them everyday!) Exige - too dinky. Lotus 2-11 - too expensive. Focus RS - too ASBO. Imprezza STi - too chavie. E46 M3 - too bland ...... and on and on I keep looking!! M5 - done that. TVR - done that!!!
So I have narrowed it down to the Z3m & Z4m. Both tick most boxes.

Your only problem is the seats? Maybe fit some recaros ,i saw a thread about a guy in the states who put them in his E39 M5 .Worth a browse I'd say.
I had already decided that is what I would do. I just found the seats never fitted me and under heavy braking I'd slide forward! The seat squab was just too flat.Paul.B said:

The Z3 coupe only came to the UK in M spec - it's therefore a rare beast and wasn't "watered" down by lower spec models.
The Z4 coupe came in a number of specs, and therefore whilst the "M" spec is still rare, the shape is pretty common (compared to the Z3).
Also, if it's important to you, the boot space of the Z3 is much more usable than the Z4.

If I can pull a deal off the weekend and the sums add up I'll be looking at a couple of cars off the classified section next week!!
Z3M's
I fancy the silver ACSchnitzer listed and the low mileage blue one (Evo mag article NOW SOLD) The black one at Redline also caught my eye.
Z4M's
I've seen a very nice one in black with CSL wheels but it is in N. Ireland and the very top of my budget.
There are others but all pushing £20k where as the Z3m's are £12-15k. The £5-8k will help with running costs (keep the wife happy!) and putting a decent set of seats in a 3m
I need to do the deal first to free the cash up.
As for the other suggestions
S2000 - Sounds dull and limp below about 7k revs and not for me.
TTS - A good left field suggestion. There was an article in Autocar this week and may be worth a look.
350Z - Not for me.
Cheers and keep them coming - all suggestions considered
£15-20K budget

I currently have a z4m and it grows on me everyday (not that I didn't like it when I first got it!).
I think their values will stabilise in the next year or two. Never driven a z3mc but I'd be interested to know how it compares.
One at redline looks nice (although I am biased as my bro owns the garage!).

If you're not set on a tintop the z4mr offers identical performance and a slightly smoother ride than the coupe. Prices are near as dammit 15k at the moment so worth a look. I love mine but you do need to put the top down to make it look its best. Longterm I can't really see the prices slipping much further than they already have although this could be wishful thinking

Same car in a nutshell, the z4m is just more reliable due to age.I think their values will stabilise in the next year or two. Never driven a z3mc but I'd be interested to know how it compares.

The z4m is more refined but still a go kart!
Z3M has much better looks though!

Would you care to list the specs a z4c came in? 3.0 and 3.2m is all that sprigs to mind!?The Z4 coupe came in a number of specs, and therefore whilst the "M" spec is still rare, the shape is pretty common (compared to the Z3).

Whilst the Z3 coupe was made in 2.8 litre RHD form, they were never UK models.

OK, well when I said a "number" of specs, I meant "2".To be fair (to myself) I see an awful lot of Z4Cs around - they certainly sold in much, much greater numbers in the UK than the Z3MC! So my rariety point still stands (until someone tears that apart too...!)
