Freelander - Head Gasket - MLS Kit
Discussion
Silly question, need to purchase a cheap 4x4, and found a Freelander 1.8 K-series engine, perfect price and in good condition, the garage took as part-ex, it looks like it's had the MLS kit fitted so question is, does this erridicate the Head Gasket Failures?
Need a clear answer before parting with cash.

Depends on how the job has been done and if its ever been overheated in the past. MLS gasket requires the liners to be at certain heights and if they have dropped its not much use in fitting one as it'll generally go again. Some freelanders came with this from the factory though and this may be the kind you have so its difficult to say.
Good as the K-series is my advice would be to avoid it in the freelander and go for a diesel (l-series) or if you can stretch to it Td4

Thanks for reply.
The car seems very clean and looked after, so I suppose I can do a little digging on the engine to see if it was a repaif following HGF. Can't really afford to put more money in, would prefer a diesel just lost my last 4x4 to gearbox failure which costs more than the Jeep's worth to replace. This one will be doing about 30 miles per day not at great speed, so i'm hoping it wont be a huge strain on the engine.
