You must know the ones I mean. A small black silhouette of a buffalo (or some other variety of cattle) that quite a lot of cars have stuck to the back end.

One simple question: Why?

It's not confined to a particular brand of cars, and as far as I can establish they're on all sorts of stuff from old to new, cheapo nasty to luxury.

Buggered if I can work out what they're in aid of, and googling has been fruitless!

They represent regions of Spain. The bull, IIRC, represents Catalonia. I think there's a donkey that represents Andalucia - and so on. Not precisely sure of which animal is which but in Spain those silhouettes are everywhere, not just on cars.

I think it's either an indication that the driver is Spanish, or has some particular affinity with that region of Spain.

Marvellous! Ta for the info, I half expected it to be a symbol for some sort of freemason-type organisation. Now I'll be trying to spot the difference between 'em smile

Doogs, dunno how you've missed them, every other car I find myself behind seems to have one!

Google the 'Osborne Bull'

In short, the bull design is everwhere in Spain, primarily Andalucia where the artist who designed the shape (it promotes rum BTW) came from, but it has reached all over Spain to become a national symbol.

The side of the road is littered with representations of the damn things. Anatomically correct as well!

God Knows. There's far too many for them to be just folks who have an association with Spain, or drink a lot of Port.

It's like the Breton flag on Picassos and older Volvos, and that damned Elk that all motorhomes appear to have, especially mustard yellow T2's, must have been standard from the factory.

No idea why they're all over people's cars but there's a massive one on a hill overlooking Fuengirola (sp?) on the Costa del Sol.

i thought the bull was more directly linked to a particular brand of booze - ie, wine / port etc, all tied in with spain though?

I've got an animal sticker from the Basque region on the back of my MX5 - a Black Sheep seemed appropriate.

I meant to start a thread on this the other day! So it's like the Indalo Man? My Grandparents have key rings and had them on previous cars, and my neighbors have one on the 530i and another on the RX-8. They've got a house in Mojácar, as did my Grandparents

Twinners isn't quite right with the regions thing although the have now become very much recognised as Spanish identity. Chain Guy got it right with the Osborne bull: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_bull

You can actually see them on many main roads in Spain, great big wooden ones out on hill tops. There are quite a few on the road from Madrid down to Granada and on to Motril on the coast. They make an impressive sight.

Word of advice. Dont go to the Basque region with one on your car. My cousin did some taining out in Spain, and he went up there with one on the back of his car (private car, not a rental) and was told by the Guardia Civil to get it off, sharpish, or his car would get every panel keyed when it got dark.

The young and angry Basque lads do NOT want to see that on a motor!
