I'm in a dilemma - seen a beautiful black Cooper S but also loved the Golf V5 I test drove at the weekend....Only concern with the mini is the size - are they very squishy squashy in the back??? And the boot size?? I luv 2 shop so this may be an issue - BUT the mini is soooooo cute I love it! Head and Heart battle me thinks!!!

Cooper S. Far superior to the Golf IMO. Whats your budget?

They may be a tad overpriced but, for tossers? A tosser can drive any car, well, if they can afford to do so.
I say drive both (not together mind) and take it from there.

ETA: Welcome to PH.

Mini would be my way forward...hell - it was!!! (a little while back).

If you buy at a sensible price, it won't depreciate too badly (ok - sort of true about all cars but more so about the minis).

Cheers

Cooper is just that little bit different to the golf, has that something extra. As for room in the back I squashed 4 mates into mine once, back seats are for the extra shopping you can't fit in the boot. Rear seats fold down very quickly for those big shops!

Enjoy.

Cooper S would be my choice.

Don't buy a Golf V5. If you decide to go down the Mk4 Golf route, you'd be better off with a GTi (1.8T, not the 2.0) or even a Tdi (130bhp version). The V5 is slow and thirsty by comparison.

10k? And you are looking at V5 Golfs? The most expensive ones are less than 6k!

Do you mean an R32?

If your budget is £10k, forget Mk4 Golfs and look at Mk5s instead. Mk5 GTis are in budget.

Like this one (picked at random from the PH classifieds): http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2173306.htm

V5 is the worst engine in the Golf, better off with a GTi.

If it's between head and heart, then you should go with the heart, sounds like you really want the mini.
Although really, if your head is telling you golf it's telling you the wrong thing.

Of the two then MINI definitely.

If you really want the V5 get a Toledo instead, much cheaper with a better spec.

I 2nd that! The good ones are easily recognised by the red i at the end of gti or tdi.
