Steering Wheel Ribbon Cable

Hi All,

In the process of fixing the ribbon cable on our Cerb and it looks like I've sourced a few of the ribbon cable connectors. These are a crimp/press on part and as the ribbon so commonly cracks at the steering wheel end these make repair very easy as it's just a case of snip the ribbon past the broken bit and crimp a new connector on.

If anyone else wants/needs one post up/drop me a mail. They're £3.50 each to us and not looking to make anything on them

You got a crimp tool for it? I thought there was very few of the machines for performing the crimp floating about.

We have one as we used to use Crimpflex for ribbon cables on some of our electronics. It's not been used for quite a long time but whilst dusty should be working (it's not the posh one with the reel holder either!)...... however there is a more erm, gangster option for crimping these which I've employed in the "field" with decent enough results. Whilst I'd always urge the use of proper crimping tools it's a fairly life limited component on the Cerb anyway so if the crimp only lasts a couple of years that's probably longer than the ribbon cable will, a blob of potting compound between the connector and ribbon will strain relieve the crimps as well.

I had some problems with mine, and found the people that made the crimping machine (the one with the reel loader) were prepared to make one for me for not a lot of money.

I think Nicomatic want about £25 to do a cable. 15 mins with an uninsulated crimping tool and 17mm socket to perform a repair on the existing cable and it's very easy.
