....but I've been here since August and want to go somewhere else! I can leave tonight (in fact, if I put some trousers on, I could go right now!) but have to be back for friday.

I've tried Googling last minute deals etc, but can only really find Vegas trips which I imagine would be a bit rubbish on my own. Wouldn't mind some Mexico sun, but 3-4 day breaks are non-existant last minute frown

So my question is, does anyone have any smart ideas as to what I could do with myself?!

Ugh, I'm becoming north American....

Anyway, been to the travel agent, they can put me on a flight to Vegas tomorrow, 3 nights in the Bellagio for £300. I'd be mad not to, right?

I'd love to get up on the mountains on skis since there has been lots of early season snow, but a broken wrist has put paid to that frown

Go to Vegas. No problem going by yourself IMO, lots of friendly folk and chatty people if you need some company, or loose women depending on what you're after, proper fish in a barrel at the clubs there biggrin

Do it, the Bellagio is stunning, and it'll be worth it just for a welcome change of scenery and some snaps for the holiday album if nothing else smile

Have you done the Capilano suspension bridge yet? I sort of loved and hated it at the same time if you know what I mean smile

Vegas sounds like a good call if you can't ski due to the broken wrist. What a shame, since Whistler opened 6 days early last week! There are already a good bunch of videos of early season snow. I can't wait to get there after Xmas!

Not sure about Whistler.

Revelstoke is the new up and coming place to go.

My favourite place on earth, but with a broken wrist I'd expect it to be significantly less enjoyable!

Just use a brace and ski without poles. Not ideal for boarding, I agree!

Many thanks for the input all. I chose to MTFU and get myself up to Cypress mountain given the glorious sunshine we had today;

6 hours skiing, only one tumble and the splint I bought for my wrist did a grand job. It was my first time on skis for 8 years, was pleased with how well I got back into it. Am shattered now though!

Two more days to dispense with now, I'm thinking maybe a night in Seattle?

I'm insanely jealous. It's 23 degrees here, still the Japanese resorts open soon.

Good man! Looks like the snow's in great shape and skiing is always fun. I found it amazing how well I remembered to ski when I restarted 10 years ago. Then they changed the pesky style to carving so I had to relearn all over again . . .

Psst - next time, you may want to put the goggles strap OVER the helmet to look less like a gaper

I have been going to Whistler for years so have always bypassed Cypress, have I been missing something so close to my Vancouver base. How good is Cypress Mountain????

Haha, I would and do when on my bike (using a pisspot and goggles for the full Euro look), but my too-cool-for-school boarding buddy informed me under the helmet is the way forward. Though, with that helmet, looking like a gaper is a given. Meh!

I'd say it would supplement your Whistler trips, not replace them. There are enough runs to keep you entertained for a few hours at a time for sure, and the place is very well run and kept. Considering its size, the facilities are excellent. You can get a $550 'silver' off-peak season pass which will do week days and nights (apart from 2 weeks over Christmas) and some weekends too I think.

Where else can you work a normal day in the city, then drive 10 miles to ski for a few hours in the evening, and be home and warm for 9.30pm?!

+1. You made the right choice, and have made me even more excited about skiing in January. 4 trips next year, people. GET SOME!
