TOM STEWART: 1958-2010 RIP

Hi all,
It is with greatest sadness that I'm writing to let you all know that dad passed away today, 22/11/10 at around 8.45am. He passed at home with mam, sister and me by his side as peacefully as it could be - 30 years on from the day he and mam got engaged.
I'm aware some people are already aware, but thought it would be useful to let others know via here.
Dad was a true larger than life character, always smiling and always making jokes. A truly awesome driver winning in every form of motorsport he entered - BRISCA F2 Stockcars, MG's in varios guises in the BCV8 championship and finally in the TVR's; he was an equally awesome dad (the best anyone could have wished for) to me and Jill, and husband to Julie.
I hope I gave him a good send off to the chapel of rest - garage doors half open with the racer and Chimaera at half revs as he was placed in the back of the car and drove away - truly hope he looked down on that with a smile!!
I will pass on details of the funeral once arranged, and we would like as many people who had the pleasure of knowing him to attend as possible!

My sincerest and heartfelt condolences. Tom was a racer and a true gent who was always at the centre of the fun and banter in the Paddock. He always raced close and fair and was a pleasure to watch at the wheel. Most importantly Tom never lost sight of the Fun that should always be had at every meeting.
It was good to see Tom at Oulton and we had a good natter at the end of year doo. It was also very good to see Tom at ease with all of his family who we could all tell made him a very very proud Husband and Father.
I hope you don't mind Dave but I've posted 2 pics of how we all I am sure remember him, grinning after a spirited drive and usually a class win. A true gentleman racer.

I bet he was wanting to know if you had warmed the engines up before you revved them.........

They were warmed up before hand yes!! As the car drove down the street I revved the racer properly too - sounds daft but I know the cars will miss him aswell...I bet he was wanting to know if you had warmed the engines up before you revved them.........

Dave, not very good at this sort of thing as i always believe that words are never enough, but i really warmed to your dad from the first time i met him at snetterton, i was like a 10 year old boy gorping open mouthed at the beautiful red griff, he had loads of time for me to talk about the griff even though he was busy sorting a problem before the race, then again at castle combe i will never forget his words, whilst dicussing the challenge over quite a few bottles of red wine he said "Points make Pratt's" this is from a man who was leading the championship and would clearly of won it had it not been for his illness which stopped him compleating the final few races!
he was a TRUE racing driver, points,championships,didn't matter,
for Tom it was the battles he had on the track, and that fantastic driving style of his that was important! he was a true gent and i feel honoured to have met him and his family.
he will be sadly missed by everyone who met him, but never forgotten,and always remembered with a smile for the kind of man he was!
