If someone wants to spend a night or two in central London and wants to treat themselves to an up market hotel, which is the best one?

Value for money a consideration, amount of money not particularly.

I wouldn't recommend the Millenium Hotel in Knightsbridge.

I stayed at the Grosvenor on Park Lane, which was very nice.

And walking distance to Gordon Ramsey's smile

I use secret rooms on lastminute.com. Its easy to find out which hotel is which and there can be some very good deals but there are some dodgy ones hidden in there so make sure you do some checking.

I'm impressed by this, people are being helpful and actually answering the question as posed.

Being Pistonheads I expected half the responses to be that it was better to save money and pitch a tent in Epping forest, and the others to be that it was more sensible to find a hotel in Glasgow or Ulan Bator.
