Hi,

Looking at an A3 or a civic (both latest shape) for the wife, but finding the right A3 is proving difficult.

More toys on the Civic and a cheaper car too, but questions over how much room there is in the back for the kids, especially with car seats.

Anybody faced a similar dilema? Looking to sort a car out this week so appreciate any feedback.

Cheers

Far more room in the Civic, and it does have a decent seat folding mechanism which makes it more versatile than the A3. Probably will be far cheaper than the Audi although won't have the same badge brownie points if you're at all bothered about that. Would say that the Civic does feel a bit cheap in places - are your kids good at breaking stuff? You might want to jump in the back and test a few of the bits they might be able to grab!

The OH faced the same dilemma about 2 years ago when replacing her Focus. She chose the Civic in the end, reasons being:

Lower starting price.
More for your money. A similarly specced A3 was much much more than the Civic.
Civic handled better, the steering isn't dead like on the A3.
Obviously opinion based but the Civic looks better, lately Audis have become a bit too bling with all that silver trim and DTRLs.

It's worth noting her bro also picked himself a civic in the summer as a company car over the A3. Again he could have a great specced Civic or a boggo A3 and he didn't like the handling on the A3 either.

I previously had an A3 and now I have a Civic.

The Honda is the better one to get. Much cheaper for what you get and more fun to drive. Admittedly the Audi interior is probably the best around, but the Honda is not far behind and I personally found the Honda seats much more comfortable on a long run than the Audi.

(Also, if you get a petrol Honda you have the joy of revving the nuts off that fantastic V-TEC engine.)
