....hello....just had a new alfa giulietta veloce jtdm and have to say its fantastic. White with double sunroof and 18" alfa wheels make it look awesome. Baring in mind the engine runs at 80% power for a few 1,000 miles it absolutely flies in dynamic mode. The interior is very funky and much more interesting than VW / Audi/ BMW.

its going to be the wife's work car and is her first diesel, hopefully she'll get a bit more than the 15-20mpg she was getting from the RX8.

so far anyway, we are more than delighted

Had one of these on loan from Alfa, cracking car. If I was to change my Sportwagon this could be a serious contender in the future.

..yes, i have been surprised how nice to drive and how quick it is, even in its running in period.

...we got a good deal on a heavily specced one ( double sunroof, satnav, red calipers, parking sensors, 18"wheels) and have to say the Alfa dealer was much nicer than BMW...less arrogant and more interested in the actual car than just the sale.

top marks so far...

Having an interesting time with a Giulietta at the moment in the South of France.

Running the Lexus CT 200h launch and the competitors vehicles its lined up against are Golf, 1 series, A3 and Giulietta

All the attendees (European sales staff) swarm around the Giulietta to a much greater extent than the other cars, all say they love it but would never buy one - when questionned why the answer is always pretty much the same "It will break down and it will be worth nothing in 3 years"

Interesting you say that Andy. I don't know how Alfa will ever break that perception. They are still battling against people whose Dad had a Sud that rusted...

We are seriously considering getting one, just think they look so much nicer than any of their rivals.

Had booked a test drive for last weekend but had to cancel.
Weather dependant it will be this weekend.

I'm really looking forward to having a drive of one smile

to be honest, thats why we plumped for the Alfa... a similarly specced 120d m sport is about £4k more. The Alfa looks better outside and in, has more toys to play with and i seriously doubt i'll see more Giulietta's about than 120d's. Ok, it may well have a few niggles in the future and be worth less in 3years than the BMW BUT it was £4k cheaper, looks 1,000 times better and has a cooled glove box with a wine rack in it!!!!...only the Italians would do that.

It's a shame that these people have got their head stuck in the sand about Alfas.

Yeah, it might break down and it will be worth next to nothing in three years biggrin

I like them - apart from the bug eye headlights. Still in a few years time when they'll be the next bargain shed, it could be the replacement for my 156.

Yours looks great 993. I was initially unsure on the shape, thought it was a bit cumbersome after the comparative delicacy of the 147's styling. It's a grower...

I was back in the South of France last weekend and got the chance to drive the Giulietta back to back against the 1 series, A3, Lexus CT 200h and Golf.

Whilst seduced by the looks of the Giulietta and being an Alfa Romeo fan / owner for many years, I must admit to being disappointed.

Whilst it drove well in fell down in a number of key areas that left me feeling frustrated:

1. Paint finish was awful, really badly affected by orange peel

2. General quality - whilst it appeared to be dercently put together the quality of the materials was poor, the door bins and bonnet release in particular were awful and the return on the front wings in the engine compartment drew blood on a number of delegates who were examining the car

3. Refinement was some way behind the others, nothing in particular, it just just a notch below them all in terms of noise levels, ride comfort, sterring kickback and general squeaks / rattles

well, i shall not argue with your opinion , but....

1 paint on mine (white) is perfect , no blemishes etc
2 quality seems pretty good to me, haven't opened bonnet yet so i'll be careful!!
3 refinement wasn't going to be the strong point of this car, design, character, uniqueness i think were more top of the list. Although its a lot better than older Alfa's and not that far behind its rivals.

the choice is something quirky and different, or common and bland...remember , a 120d msport with similar spec to ours is £4k more, a big difference in this sector of the market

davidcharles - I could not agree more, every car has its downsides and I would willingly sacrifice a little build quality / refinement for a little quirkiness.

Currently looking for a daily driver and was looking for a Giulietta, the contract hire companies are obviously not standing behind the Giulietta - a 2.0 Veloce is a whopping £180 per month more (spec equalized) than an Octavia VRs on the same terms (50k per annum, 24 months) - much as I love Alfa its not worth that much more than the Octavia

wow, thats a real shame...definately not £180 a month better....

i can only assume hire companies still see them as troublesome, small selling, niche market vehicles ...something Alfa is trying to get away from with the Giulietta and Mito.
