Yes, it's good. Some annoying limitations but when it works, it is capable of some very very good images.

You may get a better deal on a GF1 after Christmas as the GF2 is launched in January.

Are you really considering giving her a different camera after she's specifically asked for a GF1 ?

but seriously, if you spend 15 mins browsing the micro four thirds forum at dpreview you can see that it's well regarded when compared to the competition.
