Boredom at work led to a heated debate today. The crux of it was, is the Gallardo a "proper" lambo, or is it just a big Audi in a posh frock. I prefer my lambos all crazy, with wings and vents and scissor doors. My workmates are more easily pleased. I love the look of the Gallardo, it goes like stink, and sounds beautiful. I'm just not sure it's a true Lambo. What do you lot think.

If it's sold as a Lamborghini, then it's a Lamborghini...

Of course it is a true Lambo. It doesn't have scissor doors as it doesn't need them. I believe scissor doors were installed solely to aid access, as the bigger cars are so wide. Gallardo's have vents, and they can have wings. Calling a Gallardo an Audi would be like calling a Ferrari a Fiat.

Well Lamborghini are owned by Audi and use some of their parts, so perhaps the Gallardo is just a big Audi.

On that basis though, a Bentley GT is just a VW.

A Rolls Royce Phantom is just a seven series.

An Aston Martin is just a Ford or Volvo.

A Maserati Gransport is just a Ferrari (uses a derivative of the 430 engine). You can see how this can go on and on...

The Gallardo uses some of Audis switch gear and electronics and personally I like that because it means it works. The reality is most "exotic" cars out there use bits and pieces from other manufacturers and why not? In reality would it be worth a small car manufacturer spending hundreds of thousands if not more on developing a Sat Nav or Air con for their car when they can just use another manufacturers?

The important thing to keep in mind is that the engine is theirs and the body is theirs and let’s be honest those are the most important parts of a supercar!

The point about the Gallardo in particular, was that it's much more closely related to the Audi R8 V10, than for example, the RR Ghost is to the 7 series BMW, or the Bentley GT is to the VW Phaeton.

I owned a Noble once - sorry Ford Maverick with Fiesta bits - but it went like stink and held the road like glue so who cares. I quite like my Gallaudi and dont give a monkey's where the unimportant bits come from.

I havent driven an audi but I found the Gallardo dull to drive. Very fast, handled perfectly, but dull, very dull. I would have liked it to squirm about a bit more.

I can live with that idea.... I think there's some switchgear and suspension, some gearbox, ECU etc. bits from the Ferrari parts bin.

I MOTd the GranSport at the weekend. The MOT guy opened the bonnet and said "Ferrari? What the heck?" until I explained it to him.

On the basis that a Gallardo is an Audi because it uses Audi parts.......
What does that make the Diablo 6.0ltr?

The rear lights are the same as on my mates German motorhome, and the headlamps are the same as the Nissan 300ZX

This silly argument keeps coming up, started by those who like to knock what they can't afford. It is Audi who use the V10 Lamborghini engine, the Gallardo looks like a Lamborghini goes like a Lamborghini is built by Lamborghini what else must can it be, but a Lamborghini?

Called jealousy in old fashioned speak, years ago people would say 'wow how fast?', now they just try, as said, to knock you down.
