No electrics - fuse(?) between battery & starter

Hi,

Typical - nice weather, hood down and car dies half a mile from home.

Quickly traced problem to small (2 x 1 x 1 inch) black plastic box between battery and starter motor, about 8 inches from the battery (i.e. in the footwell)

Said box contains what appears to be a heavy duty fuse/fuse wire. Fuse appears to be broken rather than burned out.

The casing itself was broken and I suspect putting undue strain on the fuse hence it snapped.

From reading on here this isn't the infamous 100A fuse / fusable link, so what is it...? It has the initials MTA on the outside.

I'll try and post a pic up shortly.

Ah...a bit more reading around suggests it IS the 100A fuse (from descriptions and a search for "black plastic box").

However it would appear mine is mounted (a la ECU "mounted" in the footwell rather than attached to the chassis / engine mount.

I haven't actually traced the (thick) wire/cable from battery to starter, so it could be battery to alternator...

So, where to obtain a replacement in High Wycombe?

Most good motor factors stock them. Get two and keep the spare in the car.

Thanks, but Perry (V8 Centre) sorted me out. Only for the fuse to blow some 70-odd miles later. Car now back with Perry to investigate...
