It's been a long time since I lived and worked in Edinburgh ~ 15 years. Got a family lunch on Sunday afternoon (late) i.e. 3 pm and was having a think about where to go.

Would have automatically plumped for the waterfront down in Leith, which I like a lot, as does my father in law. But they're not doing food mid afternoon....

Any other great ph thoughts? 80 Queen St perhaps? Do Montpeliers do food on Sunday pm

Needs to be fairly central, as my brother in law lives on Elm Row and has limited transport. Me and the missus are staying at a hotel overnight as we're at the Interpol gig on Sat night.

The Kitchin isn't open on a Sunday.

Valvona & Crolla on Elm Row seems obvious? Open 10am to 5pm Sundays

Witchery is just a bit exotic!

Not tried Valvona's. Will have a look - cool! Many thanks again.

Anyone tried 80 Queen St recently? Used to be very good.

Or Vittoria's a bit further down on corner of Brunswick St, or Massimo's just before Gayfield square on the roundabout.

Pretty sure it closed down a while back, could be wrong though.

Your Bro' lives on Elm Row and you havent tried Valvona's!!! It's an Edinburgh institution which very few London chefs miss, for the deli at least, on their visits to Edin. I am told that 80 Queen Street is not what it was, I believe it has changed hands a few times recently, I caution that with the fact that it is 2nd hand information.

Ta...he's not lived there long, and we tend to use the swedish bar next door which has nice staff and some good food. I think I've used Valvona's as a deli, but not for lunch. Unfortunately a quick enquiry says that they close at half 3 on a Sunday, and my brother in law is notoriously late and unlikely to make it there for 3 as planned.

Father in law will be delighted with any of the Italians mentioned, especially as he normally picks up the tab....I was hoping to expand his palate out a little though!

There's another V+C cafe up beside Harvey Nichols, not sure what their hours are but I'd guess they might be open later because there'll be more passing trade?
