I have just gone out to my car to find some has slashed a 6" gash in the rear plastic window!!!!!!! I will have to tape it up to stop the snow, obv caused by global warming which is due this week from getting In. Now can I just replace the window or will I need an entire new hood??? Oh and any suggestions on the best place to get one??? Cheers.

Looking at the prices of replacement windows, it might be better to get a full hood anyway.

gutting frown you can just replace the rear window, you need to seperate the end of the zip and i think undo some stitching tho that might be wrong. but second hand ones don't seem to come up that often i guess cos they tend to go before the rest of the roof does.

you're probably better off getting a whole new roof and selling your old hood for spares.

I replaced the plastic rear screen in my mk1. I just bought a rear screen portion from mx-5 parts for the region of £150. It was quite a simple job to do, but I had the workshop manual for the car and it made all the jobs easy.

Had the same thing happen to mine frown

Seen you've taped it up, if it doesn't hold try B&Q as they do some clear weatherproof, waterproof tape for doing exactly this. Mines been slashed for several months now and is holding fine with the tape.

What I've done which seems to be working is, taped the slash from the inside, then used superglue on the outside to seal it up, left it over night and I removed the tape this morning, so far so good!! Looks alright and seems to be holding.

Hi, your forum name would indicate you are in swansea, (on my phone at the moment and can't see your profile for some reason) If so try jack smiths trimmers in swansea, they did my new roof a few months ago and were very reasonable and did an excellent job.
I started a thread a while ago and people put up some pics and gave plenty of positive reviews. Certainly worth a look if you are in the area.
The day I took mine in a guy had brought his over from ireland so they must be good!

If anyone knows somewhere in Yorkshire I would be grateful. Borrowed Louise's mum's 5 yesterday in the snow and the second time I put the roof down it bloody split. Could do with some trimmers to replace the plastic of anyone knows anywhere. Or do I have to buy a whole new zip section? Any pointers gratefully received smile

You should always allow the hood to warm up before putting the top down and ALWAYS unzip it first!

I know, having had a couple of TVRs I did think about it, but I'd been driving about in it for the last couple of hours and thought it would be ok.

Didn't know about unzipping it though and, to be honest, not being my car I didn't even realise it had a zip. I'm going to give a trimmers in Bradford a ring and see if they can just replace the plastic section.

Al, there's a place near Conisborough I think, MX5 City who specialises in MX5/Miata. In fact here you go, £85 and in stock.

Had mine done here

Bielawski's Sheffield Trimming Co (search on yell if the link doesnt work)

Excellent job for £80 I think it was. This was a custom job mind, not a simple zip-in replacement panel, that said the repair is so good I cant tell its been done. Rumour has it not all zips tie in with each other, so a replacent panel may not fit. Also I have Mohair hood

Top tip, dont put your roof down without warming the screen up a little first smile
