Are there any decent F1 games available for PC (windows 7 compatible)? Or indeed any decent motor racing simulation?

Try Grand Prix Legends. It's 60s F1, but it's pretty good.

the new F1 2010 is pretty good. you really need a wheel tho.

rFactor has loads of tracks and F1 cars from various years. Also a thriving online community.

This. The F1 2006 mod is outstanding, for realism, get RF. Very hard to control without pedals are throttle control is essential - or you'll just spin.
