Been to Thornbury Castle for a meal a number of times over the last few years. Thoughts as below:

  • Atmosphere and setting is incredible; apertifs and menu browsing in the lounge with open roaring fire in winter months. Meal served in one of 2 period dinning rooms (or if you book well in advance and ask, private dining can be arranged). Coffee served in the library afterwards.
  • Food has always been exemplary and at £50 a head I'd consider it reasonable value.
  • Excellent wine list; from their own house wine produced on the premises to excellent vintage Bordeaux, Burgundy et al.

whatley manor, great spa, lovely restaurant if you go to the michelin starred one (le mazot?), the other one is like being in a harvester.

make sure u get a room you like, complain if not.

generally very good service and a lovely place. laterooms.com have deals

i'd always go to cowley manor though
