Hi, I've got a 2005 Rolex Seadwellar that i am upgrading to a Daytona, does anyone have any experince of selling a second hand rolex e.g. do and dont's - dealers to be aware of or were the best place advertise might be. My rolex dealer has offered me £3k for it but i note they are then sellnng for £5k+ on the open market and i think a £2k+ mark up is too much! what about watch auctions - any good?

Thanks for any help

£3k is not a bad starting deal from a dealer to be honest.
You'd probably get around £3.3-3.5k selling privately.
What's the cost to change for the Daytona and is it a Stainless model?

Thanks - really? - This is the 1st Rolex i've sold and i dont understand why a dealer can sell for £5k yet i can only get 3.5k privatley for the same watch? what value or service to they add to justify a 40% margin? Yes my Daytona is steel (white face) and i paid RRP for it but have been waiting 3 years for it to arrive! I may just sell the seadweller to a dealer then as not worth the risk selling private to gain £300/500 quid! can anyone recomend a good second dealer (other than the one we all know in Bond Street!). Thanks again.

I've been sniffing around these for a while as have loved them for years. Pricing seems to be:

£5,000 - Optimistic - Unworn 2009 watch
£4,600 - Completely perfect 2009 watch
£4,400 - Perfect but worn 2008/2009 watch
£3,700 - £4,400 The rest of the market

I must stress that the prices I mentioned were what I have seen retail...this week...and there is quite a spread between dealers.

£3k top whack IMHO. You can pick up a brand new M Series for £4k if you look hard enough (USA)

If you've been offered £3k from a dealer I'd take it but question why you want to swap it for a Daytona as they have 'had their day' now.

SD is much better to hold on to given the uncertainty of what Rolex plan to do in terms of deleting it from the range. Given the lack of take up on the Deep Sea (which looks a pile of ste) I think the SD is here to stay or reincarnated very soon perhaps in a slightly larger case.

Keep the SD, it's a better-looking watch than the Daytona

Agree on the SD being the nicer looking watch. I bought a GMTII in 2001, and a SS Daytona a couple of years ago. I hardly wear the Daytona, maybe once every couple of months as prefer the look of the GMTII. If I needed the cash and one had to go, I would be selling the Daytona.
