Hideous Bracelet
Discussion
Link to Google images. The Breitling Air Racer bracelet as introduced in 2009 for the Navitimer 125th Anniversary edition watch, to commemorate 125 years of Breitling watches. Solid steel bracelet that is almost like a bangle, resembles the Ocean Racer rubber strap but in a rigid metal version.

I think this is awful. Like something that used to be fitted to the Storm watch range

Ha, I must say I quite like it - not so much on a reissue but as an original seventies thing then I think it works quite well. Can't say how comfortable it would be, about the same as an Olongapo bracelet I reckon, but certainly stylish and 'of the time'... :box:

It's not just that the bracelet is horrible, that's a matter of taste. What I have a problem with is the watch it's connected to… the Navitimer in all its variations is a fussy, hyper-detailed busy-as-hell chronograph with a LOT going on on that dial. It doesn't make sense to pair it with a minimalist hyper-designy bracelet. The bracelet may work with some random Danish watch but it sure as hell isn't anywhere *near* appropriate for the Navitimer.
I'm no fan of Breitling but give me a slide-rule Travolta watch on a fat leather strap any day - any colour leather would suit the watch better than this bracelet. The other bracelets I've seen for Navitimers are spangly, shiny, lots-of-links type affairs - again entirely in keeping with the design…
This combo doesn't work. I'm interested in what makes andy_s 'get' the combination - even if there's history behind it, it's still the crazy combination of ultra-detailed and hyper-minimalist… no good IMO

Just catching up - I don't 'get' the combo myself, nor do I like the bracelet on it's reissue watch - I was thinking more of the original watches in the seventies that had these bracelets - I think my uncle had one on a blue faced watch and a friend of the family when I was a kid had one and he was a Rally mechanic, so a 'real bloke' when you're a young lad. So... I think it's just a pensive yearning rather than a full-on 'love those'. They'd look good on an old diver I reckon :getscoat:
