I had one of these. The light would come on sometimes, and then get bored and go off.
As for removing the battery, well I had to do that about once a month as it also had RFBD (random flat battery disease). Not a big deal as the radio was unlocked anyway, and after a while I could change batteries almost as fast as McLaren change tyres.
