That Harry Potter bloke - is it just me who doesn't get it?
Discussion
The OH is off to see the new Harry Potter film tonight and is very excited. She is also going to see it again next Monday night. I saw half of the first film and that's been it - it just doesn't appeal at all. Apparently if I "gave it a chance" I might like it. I once called it "Mills and Boon with Wizards" and it wasn't appreciated - but that's what it's become isn't it some wizard chap who has grown up and is into women?
So, what's the opinion of the rest of us here? Am I missing out or are there more like me who think it's just not for them?

I have read all the books and they are a good read.
The films leave out a significant amount of details and as standalone viewing they are probably not so great.
Having said that as a huge movie fan I am of the opinion films should standalone without needing people to refer to books but I spose they can only do so much in 2 hours.

The books are for kids and the plotting and dialogue reflects as much. This is fine, but I'm always sceptical that adults can truly claim them to be a good read without the addendum of "for a kids book".
Daniel Radcliffe is as wooden as they come, and puts me off even trying to watch the films.

+1I read the first one to try and see what all the fuss was about. It was undeniably a well-written children's book, but I really couldn't see what it was supposed to have that made it stand out beyond that and get normally sensible adults all excited.

I've never read a HP book or seen a film. I'm under 30 and feel thankful I've never dated a potter fan either. I very much doubt I'm missing anything.
I've tried to read the books but have never managed to get past the first couple of pages without thinking "This is tosh" and giving up.Mobile Chicane said:
