Guys,

Just read in the Daily Mail this morning about Calais police snared more then 100 speeding UK motorists over the bank holiday weekend.

They targeted the A26 south of Calais...don't know if this is one of the routes used for Le Man (as this year will be my first trip!).

7 people who were 45mph over the 81mph limit were arrested and had there licences and cars confiscated. There are going to continue targeting this route...basically 9/10 people stopped were from the UK...whether they were deliberately targeting UK cars (which is why this stat is so high) is another question and don't want to accuse our neighbours of unfair harassment

Thats my plan, no major routes for me, they are boring anyway, get a good map and head for those back roads. I will be heading from Dieppe early friday morning avoiding the E402.

Don't worry Alan, if we follow my Sat Nav directions, we won't be going anywhere near a main road!

but then there are those insane people who blat to and from Le Mans who are practically uncatchable

What I'd like to know is how those arrested got home? If the French Confiscate Cars and Licences how do they get home, and what power does the French Police have over Brits to Confiscate a Driving licence issued in the UK?

I hope so - the engine is going back in on Monday/Tuesday, and it should be ready by Wednesday. The only problem is if they can't get it back to Castle by the end of the week... Fingers crossed!

We were stopped and fined last year 750 euro for doing a measly 168km in a 90. Took Keiths license and returned it after several months, also as we did not happily accept their fine and said so on the paperwork in October they sent a letter saying that we'd get a refund of 300 euro if we sent all bank details. Have done this 5 times and guess what, no refund! What would happen if we owed them money? Perhaps we'll keep it in credit for the next fine! We now try to avoid driving in France as I gather they are now even stricter. Had several friends done in the Calais area.
