Heavenly bodies, where to look :) upwards of course!

I've got a 20x spotting scope for wildlife but I fancy a peak upwards. I've a good tripod and I know a few major constellations. What's really worth looking at with this magnification assuming it's powerful enough? Thanks in advance.

Rural hotels are the best. Miles from anywhere so they dont bother closing the curtains as there wont be anyone to see in. Needs to be quite a well priced one though... Not too expensive as younger single ladies cant afford these. Failing that, track down a hotel with a wedding reception the next day. Always something to see....

Free and quite good. But, Moon always worth a go as are the planets.

Edit. Light pollution good or bad?

Edit 2. Jupiter is up, should be able to make out the moons?

I'd start with the planets - should get good views of Venus, Mars and Jupiter, as well as the moon in high detail.

Space stuff tends to go in here, I started an astronomy thread a few months ago that keeps trundling along, you should find targets in there. If you dont mind staying up a bit later, about midnight, 20x mag should give you a good view of the Orion nebula, find orions belt and look for a misty patch perpendicular to the centre star.

Can certainly recommend the free stellarium.
