Winter trackday tyres?

I run Triple 8's on my TVR which are very good if not effing expensive, (about £850 a set!).

I want to do some winter trackdays in my Octavia vRS and am due for a tyre change.

Any suggestions please?

Have you run the 888s in winter? I'm going to attempt to run them on the 6th Dec at Bedford, I feel this may not be wise!

They heat up faster than road tyres so unless it's raining 888s should be fine

In summer the Triple 8's become almost too hot to touch but when I have used them in cold weather, they hardly warm up but still, have performed quite well.

I am doing Combe this Saturday and am toying with the idea of running my road wheels with T1R's on although the grip is well down on the 8's!!

Decisions, decisions?

I would have thought if you can get them warm, they'll stay warm. Maybe a bit of F1-style weaving on the outlap if the TDO will let you?

Hi, 7er, not thought of that option but was considering my Disco with mud terrains .

I have Brands next Thursday.
I was wondering if it was even worth taking the slicks in this temperature?

in all seriousness tho, have a look at kumho's... I have done a fair few trackdays on them in a Beemer. They're not the last word in grip in the dry, but they're good in the wet, progressive and best of all, quite cheap! The 18" tyres on my Subaru were about £80 a corner from my local merityre in leatherhead (great bunch in there by the way)

What Khumo's?

We run Federal rsr595's they are excellant in the wet and almost as good as 888's in the dry but cost less......

Ku31 something or another! Very much a road tyre, but good vfm!
