Ta.

It's made me think about LPG again, but I can never be sure that I will keep a car long enough for it to pay.

LPG whilts is a good alternative fuel can often make oxygen sensors slow to react, creating management issues when run on petrol. Answer? run on pertol more often!

Interesting article. I don't agree with everything they say though; if i'm nit picking the 2.5V8 was a daimler engine, it was never fitted to any Jaguar was it? The standard sound system in an X300 is better then the standard sound system in a pre-2000 XJ8 and the straight6 is smoother then the V8, especially at low revs. The V12's he's been exposed to must have had something horribly wrong with them if the V8 rivals it!

He implies that the post 1996 cars rust less, is that true?

Other then that it's a good article written by someone who clearly likes these under valued cars!

Six is smoother then the V8? nono Really?

No comparison between the two under any load or speed conditions IMO. I've owned both 6cyl and V8s in XJs, as well as driven several other examples of both engines

The AJ6 was actually worse in terms of refinement when it was launched than the outgoing XK - I had an XK engined Series 3 at the time I first drove a AJ6 engined XJS and was amazed by how rough it was - not only that but it compared very badly indeed with the lovely, creamy contemporary BMW sixes in the 90's and nowadays is way outclassed by the V8. Sure it was quitened down a bit in 1994 - mainly down to a change in camshaft profiles and valve stem sizes - when it was relaunched in 1994 as the AJ16 but to suggest it's anywhere near as refined or smooth or quiet as the Jaguar V8 is being a tad silly.

Drive both - chalk and cheese you'll find.

Have done. Driven a few V8's, owned an X308 XJR for a year and have driven my mates 3.2 sport a fair bit. What I suppose haven't done is driven a 3.2V8, I'm comparing the 4litre V8's with a 3.2 straight 6.
