When I am on line I get a constant barrage of boxes that pop up saying messenger service and contain a load of old tosh about viagra and spyware etc. I have AV software (up to date) and a firewall.
Any help would be appreciated

I am assuming you arent on a network?

If not then:

Right click My Computer and select manage.

Open the Services and Applications item and select the Services branch.

Locate 'Messenger Service'

Double click it.

Set the startup type to disabled and stop it if its running.

Job done.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm on steam powered 28.8k dial up. Too rural for anything with a printed circuit. I'll also do a search before I post so as not to waste anyones time!
Thanks
Andrew
