Trump vs Non Sellers
Discussion
I was just reading about one of the families in this Trump case and how they are refusing for whatever reason to sell. Could they mark out a bit of their land divide it into square cm and sell them off to all their supporters for a quid. In the rights to your new bit of land it would be written that you never build upon it..... or whatever secures it to not jepordise themselves.
Then Trumpy and his hit squad/ the council would have a nightmare on there hands?
Any thoughts!?

I had thought of that idea too. I'm not sure if it would work or not but it seemed like a good idea to me.
I don't think the Trump golf/housing estate is a good idea. It's pretty clear that the golf course is only being used to allow him to build a housing estate on expensive green belt land. Saying he is going to invest £1bn in the economy means nothing more than if he just built £1bn worth of houses anywhere else in the country. I don't think a hotel and golf course is really going to create that many jobs and I bet most of the jobs are filled with east Europeans just like in the Aviemore resorts.

Agreed. Not to mention the environmental damage to the site of the golf course.I don't think the Trump golf/housing estate is a good idea. It's OK Aberdeen will be a barren wilderness when the oil dries up and all the companies move out leaving nothing here but a nice environment, with all those lovely environmentalist spending all their green dollars coming to Aberdeen to admire it. Oh, wait......
Anyway, Compulsory purchase.

Well quite, any development is for short-term gain. Scotland's greatest asset in the long-term will always be it's natural environment. But only if we are sensible with it. That certainly doesn't preclude development but development needs to be sustainable and not for someone's greedy quick buck. Anyway, Compulsory purchase.

Well said that man!! Trump - GTF
Trump benefits aside, I have a real problem with people being told they have to get off their land because someone else wants to play golf.
It's all very well to say that they will get a good price... but, just for a moment, how would you feel if it was your house and you didn't want to move?

There was a program on BBC2 a couple of weeks ago about the whole debackle. From what I could see there were two property ownwers who dont want to budge no matter how much money is involved. Trump openly called one of the properties a midden and the owner said Trump can shove his money up his arse, so no love lost between them. I dont think the old guy will move no matter how much money is involved, I dont think he should have to either, its his midden, bought and paid for.
Im not against Trump having his golf course, Im sure it would bring a short term benefit to the area but should it be at the cost of throwing someone out of their home against their will because they have the millions to do it or have the local council in their back pocket?

Dont think the local authority can compulsory purchase property if it just part of a development. Would need to be incidental to a plan eg to put a road through it etc.
Not my area of law but can't see an owner can be forced to sell to a private developer. Problem would be that they could simply build around them and make the property virtually valueless and not worth living in!
Look at the cottage that used to exactly border the M8 just outside glasgow airport on the east bound side. I seem to recollect from many years ago they refused to sell, had the motorway build just by their gable and had a house that no one in their right mind would ever buy or go and live in! Now derelict or fallen down?
What would you do? Problem is if they stay and find the amenity of living there is soooo bad, they can only sell to one person who may not then give them a good price!
It's often not what the Law is but what the end result is!

Would it have been too much bother to see if the residents would be willing to move before getting big ideas and trying to kick them out after you have decided what you're going to be doing?
No it wouldn't have but I don't think you're quite getting the arrogance of the developer though! Some good points. The issue here being, and one that has been mentioned is why should they have to if they dont want to.
It seems its the first step to building more houses but surely an extra 'x' amount of new Trump houses readily available would knock out 'x' amount of houses that are trying to be sold by people in Aberdeen and surrounding areas with profits going to Mr Ginger Dome in his home country, not the local people trying to sell there houses now with some stiff competition....would this influx also have an effect on house prices?
The natural habitat thing mentioned is a good one as it really is up their with promoting Scotland and will hopefully be for a considerable time. The oil and gas wil be aroud for a good bit as well...no pun intended!
What would be the financial effect on other golf courses as well?
If the council have the power to make people sell or whatever the case is with these people then surely it wouldnt be that easy if 10,000 owned a bit of that land.....even if its 10 x 10m....whatever that works out as per person.
Would this not be if it could be done an answer to the peoples problem?

There have been debates on this topic in the past and it's interesting to see how the general opinion has gone from one of support for trump to the opposite (I'm not referring to specific posters changing their stance). In other words, I don't think you can pull over folk's eyes for too long.

That's the thing, they didn't, they said they were offered many thousands under what market value was. If you want something & it's not for sale you don't low ball. (Especially when your a Billionaire & when World Press is involved - His enemies must be having a right old laugh) I think it's completely out of order to force people out of their homes for the sake a leisure activity.
If it were (hypothetically speaking) a must need hospital that will save lives, or even a by-pass that will cut congestion in a city etc, then fair enough. We don't need extra houses there, we don't need a golf course.
Shame though, the benefit to the economy is without doubt. I do laugh though, "the worlds finest golf complex" uhuh, in some of the worlds shi%^iest weather
