Its the 5th Anniversary of Richard Burns death today. Only 4 years before that he won his 1st and only World Rally Championship.
A fantastic English rose cut down before his time, still the only Englishman to win the WRC.

I'm coming late to the game as I was not interested in rally when he was alive, other than playing the WRC games back on the PS2 around 2002, so I never saw him rally or even knew who he was until years later when I got into rallying as a sport.
Still, an incredible driver, and definitely an important chapter in Subaru's golden age. There was a feature about his memorial event on a WRC program I watched once, there was a huge number of Imprezas and Evo's turned out at the event. A true talent and sadly missed.

Was always amazed by his driving. The complexity of his notes, his confidence in them and utter commitment and skill he showed through every corners was staggering. Hard to believe its been 5 years already

Thanks for posting that link - forgotten how good the TG tribute was.Have to agree with the general sentiment: Richard Burns... RIP.
Really nice guy and an extremely talented rally driver. Always missed Burnsey, but never forgotten.

In October 1996 my dad blacked out behind the wheel of his car and had a minor shunt. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour and died in February 1997. I was a huge fan of Burnsey and couldn't believe it when the same thing happened to him. Taken far too soon.
It was unfortunate that George Best died around the same time and that as a result Richard's death didn't get the media coverage that he deserved.
