Hi all,

So the weather has gotten a lot colder in the past couple of weeks and my 156's suspension has started squeeking, particularly when i start a journey i.e nothing has had a chance to warm up yet.

My suspisions is that its the bushes, as i've heard these a weak point in the 156, would they squeek if they were on the way out?.

Cheers, James

You should probabaly also fix your door handles that don't work.

Another, less important, problem caused by the cold weather. Its an Alfa, its character!

Ha. Any other car it would be broken.

It's the front wishbones.

My GT just started doing it, on the day it was due in for a big service. They checked it out (an Alfa place) and said "They all do that, sir". They do wear, and need replacing, but said mine were still ok. Just squeeky.

Good thread this as I picked up a 147 on saturday that has squeaky front suspension and sticky (rear) door handles, assuming the handles would be an easy fix as it look like you can take the plate off the inside of the door which would let me get in there with some oil?

Thanks for this, I will get it into a garage (due for a service anyway) once i have had an insurance repair sorted after the second person in around a month has hit my car whilst parked!

Assuming we're atlking about the rears and they are the same on both the 147 and 156, this is an easy fix - I took the handle panels off (three fixing screws on inside) and attacked the handle pivots with three-in-one oil and worked it in, ten minute job each side.

Hi Jimmy 156,
just had this all sorted at Autointegrale near Reading, a top repair/paint shop next door (modern paints ltd) "who drives a nice 156 himself" may be able to get both sorted in one visit, highly recomended, i,ve used them for 6 years, i live in swansea but work in surrey, well worth the travel to get the job done properly.

hope this helps ,paul.

Yup, upper wishbones usually.

You could reduce the squeaking by spraying some grease on them.

I've just had upper wishbones replaced for the same reason! Sorted now. Not too expensive. It was wearing my tyres badly too!
